Erab Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Before posting this kind of comment, you should always ask yourself two questions: - How sure am I of what I'm going to post? (in this case, do I know which stick inputs the pilot is making?) - How is it going to be perceived by the guy who's just spent 14 hours a day over the past weeks to make it work? Just a comment, he still pointed out it's in Beta.

Why should we make it all sunshine and lollipops? Gun snake looks rubbish at the moment, but its no doubt a WIP.

Great work for a 1 day old beta. - i have been encouraging people on our Facebook group to preorder this module cause unlike others you can trust them that they'll deliver a great FM. thanks for the lecturing though PS: no need for those lollipops, you aint getting the module for free Edited November 9, 2015 by TomCatMucDe
Ultra Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Just looks like the refresh rate/resolution of the snake is a little low. I would guess that's not a big deal to improve.

These guys have shown pheromonal progress in a very short time. They ll have no problem fixing those issues. They make developing mods look ridiculously easy

Brisse Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Just looks like the refresh rate/resolution of the snake is a little low. I would guess that's not a big deal to improve. Question is.... what's the refresh rate of the real thing? :) This is something that has been bugging me a little bit. All HUD symbology in all DCS modules seem to refresh as fast as possible (every simulated frame), and symbols are very precise. Reality is a bit more complex than that.

Ultra Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 :D I also went to look for a video. Looks like they got it closer than I thought. But looks to me like it could be a little smoother to match RL, but doesn't need to be changed much.
howie87 Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Well, I certainly wouldn't even know where to start with coding avoinics or a flight model so you get a massive well done from me! I love it when a DCS module really hits a home run and this one in particular looks to be coming along very well indeed.

Ultra Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Indeed, when you make roll command, the snake goes wild ! https://youtu.be/TAVUR7raV9w Lol nice. It looks like the computer plots 'points' every X=time interval, every 0.25 sec for example, for where the bullets will go and connects them with a line to make the snake. So when the nose is moving slower, the points are closer together making a smoother curve. But when the nose is thrown around very fast, the points are plotted further away from each other letting you see the individual connecting line segments instead of a smooth curve. That's my guess at least.

Ultra Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Wow I was actually pretty close, thanks for the info. :) If you already have that info, you're model must match RL, nice job.
Moos_tachu Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Why should we make it all sunshine and lollipops? Gun snake looks rubbish at the moment, but its no doubt a WIP. Please read my post again: "How sure am I of what I'm going to post?" Looking at the latest comments and video links, the gun snake does not look so much rubbish to me... Regarding the lollipop thing, I don't think it deserves an answer, does it? Now to comment on the snake going wild during rolls and other sudden pilot inputs, that might be disturbing in the first place, but from a pragmatic standpoint, dogfight is about firing your guns when you have a stabilized aim at your target; if you shoot during a roll, you'll be spraying bullets like hell! PiedDroit Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Super video, I's really cool to have such updates, thanks! If we compare it with real videos it behaves like it should, maybe a little less smooth (esp. radar piper) but it's hard to judge yet. What's interesting to note is that this sight is of the "historical" type, i.e. it will plot the path of the bullets if you would have fired continuously. So the prediction is good when stabilized for a second of two. On the joke side, I was thinking, this reminds me of a certain game I had on my Nokia 3310 :D

Gliptal Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 I have a question regarding the HUD carets: are they energy based or speed based? Let's assume I'm at a climbing angle with a low power setting, trading speed for altitude, and that the trade is such that my total energy delta is 0: will the carets be aligned with the FPM (energy based) or will the be below the FPM (speed based)?

I think it doesn't take altitude into account, so it would be speed based (and attitude based). The goal is to indicate the pilot if he has enough thrust to guarantee maneuvering capability Edited November 10, 2015 by PiedDroit
