Hi

When you try to land on a steep surface, as closer you get to the ground you have to push the stick quite hard in the direction to the hill. But in RL it dont need that much input.

Does someone note that too?

I should imagine it would be different for everyone using different sticks. Have you adjusted your curves in the options or left them at default?

Why are you trying to land on a steep surface anyway? The 'pushing the stick in the direction of the hill' thing is quite normal and due to ground affect lifting that side of the heli more than the 'downhill' side.

I also wanted to post about this. I was also wondering about ground effect in steep slopes, it does feel unrealistic, but then of course I have no idea how it should be in real life. Maybe somebody knows how it is modelled in the sim?

It's a shame, because it makes things like:

really hard at the moment. But then again maybe it's already totally reallistic and I just need to work on my skills.:pilotfly:

Indeed you do. :smilewink:

Chinook and Lama are quite different helicopters from the Huey. Rotor system is different, and besides this you can surely perform realistic steep slop landings with the Huey provided you have the skill to do so and you do that on slopes within the approved slope angles.

Nice video of the Chinook, quite impressive.

So, I followed your sound counsel:smilewink:, and here are my doubts on the flight model:

In light slopes it seems very accurate to me, but on ledges it seems to jump from one slope to the next, and above steep slopes there is an air cushion when the front of the skid is at 1-0.5m from the slope that just does not seem realistic to me. In a steep slope, the air should not be stopped (like when it's flat) but merely deflected, so I reckon the ground effect should be much less repulsive.

Let me stress again I'm not saying this as a know-it-all expert, these are just my educated guesses and I would love to know how the ground effect is modeled in the sim, and how much thought & love they gave slope ground effect.

Because I am a showoff, here are snapshots of my slope landing in a light slope, with the stable cyclic & collective inputs:

Ain't the FM, but DCS's (lack of accurate) terrain modelling.

The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.

Might improve with EDGE then? Was wondering if it concerned more the rendering only, or how deep into the DCS physics the EDGE overhaul will go.

The slope limits on the huye is probably around 8 degrees. Have to look it up. SOmetimes that limit is because of cyclic range. Meaning you cant displace the stick into the slope enough because the stick is all the way over. They are other limits to slopes, I am just naming one. And if it is a step slope like u show in the picture then u won't get into ground effect. There is noting under u to slow the flow of air through your rotor system. That is called induced flow. I am sure thats not modeled yet.

That you have to push on the hill side is absolutely clear. i just ask about it, if it is too much?

You see it on the one screen, "normaly" the trim is on the back left side depending on the load of the huey. Here you see it is far in front.

If you hit the control stops or you are mast bumping and the aircraft is not on the ground, then it is to much. The game does not demonstration slopes very well.

Thanks! :)

Ive asked my Boss about it. He said its not that much difference, but i could be because he just do it and dont thinks about it ^^

It seems to me that ground effect on the slope is too effective. I can climb along the slope just by pushing cyclic slightly against the slope, even without any collective input. (hovering between 0.5 to 1 m above the slope with the up-slope skid)
