I agree, great post. Language is indeed an unfortunate limitation, but I think groups need to deal with it. There's no point in having Teamspeak when you need to dedicate half your neurons to trying to figure out what that guy is trying to say.

Comment on the last paragraph: I found that a separated Teamspeak with Guest/Lounge/Flight Areas works well. New members can use the open Guest part and get used to the concept of TS. Everyone can and will move them into the lounge to socialize, say Hello and get to know each other, and the Flight Channels are exactly for that - people get moved in and out of there if they fly in the lounge or chat in the flight channels.

Great idea. I just added a lounge to my TS server.

As a horrible foreigner I'd say language is the bigger barrier.

Given the complexity of simgames such as DCS A10C and Falcon4 etc there is always the scary thought of failing a load of complicated procedures when new to a team and add to that that you have to communicate in a language you don't master - not the most optimal situation for a new guy.

With that in mind I can still deeply and warmly recommend trying MP on Blooze's server as a more patient and knowledgeable e-pilot is hard to find. Been-there-done-that (but I'm too split for other sims such as Dover and ArmA to get the continuation going) so if you're curious/nervous - go for it.

Teamspeak Phobia. Nice title and I am guilty too.

I always use TS in gaming but never in DCS. Maybe because?

- I can't als+tab in dcs

- a to serious community prejudice

- I only can fly and effectively jettison my weapons

How to fix this social malfunction in general and use TS?

- have no preconception

- don't listen to your own dialect, just speak in the language of the TS-host.

- TS lobby is like a bar. Chat along or listen and say hi.

- for some privacy join a TS room

mm.. I am going to give DCS-TS a try. Thx

Like many others, I'd say that language barrier is one reason. But not the only one.

-I prefer text chat because you are not disturbed half as much as with vocal chat. It can get very noisy, very fast.

-As some other people said, in this kind of game I would rather have a realistic radio com and speak only to people I'd be supposed to speak with in such situations.

-I look stupid enough with my TrackIR set on the head, so I'm reluctant to add disgrace to annoyance by bothering my girlfriend with geeky chat from outter space (because, let's face it, we hardcore sim fans all speak like geeks from outter space). My sexual life is still slightly more important than my virtual pilot skills.

My biggest reason for not jumping on a TS server is pure laziness... and the fact with a two year old running about I may need to eject at any moment, so not having to worry about not saying goodbye makes it easier as well :)

Yeah that rings true here too!

Step 1 of your anti-phobia therapy session. Log on to this channel: speakdls2.teamspeak.net:20589 at 8PM your time just to say hello.

Blooze, I will hop on your TS channel, and hopefully even fly with you, as soon as I can; unfortunately RL has hampered progress these last few weeks.

Well I gave it a *shot* (most horrible pun intended). I'm now single again. Thank you, good sir, I can now come back to what matters most in the world: optimizing my startup sequence so the DNS does not take ages to come online.

- TS lobby is like a bar. Chat along or listen and say hi.

Think of it as a Pub street where each Pub has its own, commonly known house rules and denizens (regulars?). That gives each Pub/TS a unique atmosphere and appeal.

@tsumikae

That seems like one of the few ways to break up where no involved party suffers unnecessarily. That needs to be archived in the Breakup 101.
