Winfield_Gold
Some of the multiplayer servers seem to be hosted online through a service provider. After searching the threads, it seems that help in setting up a server is applied for say if I set up my 3rd computer as a host in my house. I am curious though, how would one set up a server through an online provider? Like servers being hosted for say Arma, BF4, etc etc. I have all the modules but I dare say, all I would need to do is install dcs world onto an online hosting server. Is this at all possible or is a 3rd computer here in my house the only possible option
Blooze
If I understand the question, the only way to operate a MP server is by setting it up and hosting it within the DCS World master server. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
ChiefRedCloud
And how would one do this and at what, if any, cost? A friend of mine and I have been trying to host on our own computers (just for training between ourselves) but have been stymied every way we turn. Blooze
Just do a search for gaming servers and you will see many options available. I host up to 10 clients on a cheap laptop and rarely have any problems. It's more important to have the necessary bandwidth than it is expensive hardware. Blooze
I use a laptop with an Intel Core2 Duo P8700 @ 2.53GHz and 4GB ram with 3D rendering turned off and it works just fine. You can also just hit the F10 key for map mode when hosting. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Supersheep
What you are seeing are rented dedicated servers in a data center, operated by a professional company. However, they are most likely root servers completely administered (Teamviewer etc) by the people running DCS; I don't know of any turnkey DCS servers. While this is pretty expensive (50-120 USD/month?), the upsides are a beefy internet connection and compute power. However, especially the CPU and memory requirements drive the price. Fakum
I myself am pondering the thought of hosting my own server, but I can not afford to rent one myself. Here is my situation. I am NOT an IT guy, but within our company I work closely with them and they occassionaly remove antiquated servers and they sit around and collect dust after that. So I have the luxury of obtaining one of these for free. So I had this conversation with them today, they asked me what I needed, this is where I am lost. I assume I need to have DCS world installed on it, and all my licensed modules as well. Then I would likely have my own Team Speak server??? Now comes the hardware, as quoted above: "Recommended system requirements: OS 64-bit Windows Vista, 7 or 8; CPU: Core i5+; RAM: 8GB; Hard disk space: 10 GB; Video: Shader 3.0 or better; NVIDIA GeForce GTX560 / ATI 6950 DirectX 9.0c or better; Sound: DirectX 9.0c - compatible; DirectX: 9.0C; requires internet activation. " These specs would be foreign to them from the aspect of what I need for DCS, so what information do i need to change here? Does a server really need a sound card for example? They said that I shouldn't need a video card, I would likely need storage space, CPU, ram and bandwidth. Not sure how else to ask this question. Once I get the specs, they could probably help me from there as to how to get it set up. Thanks for any info. BitMaster
I do not think that 4GB RAM is sufficient for all Missions available for download. My Dell Optiplex C2D-2.8GHz was equipped with 2GB = no-go for DCS I added 2 GB = some Missions run, most didn't run and/or crashed I added another 2 GB = most missions ran, some still failed I added the final 2GB to 8GB total = no RAM issues anymore with all missions tested. My tip, to avoid any frustration, check that whatever Hardware you get you have 8 Gigs in it and a CPU with 3GHz or faster on a few cores if you intend to run intensive missions. Your UPLOAD to the internet should be as high as possible, do not even try to host a 32 player Server on a standard home user DSL or Cable modem line UNLESS you have a 100/30 Mbit or better rate. I think the smallest upload should be 10Mbit for like 10 players. Then comes your firewall config in your router ( and maybe OS Firewall too ). Open the ports needed for the game and "forward" them to your servers internal IP. If you dunno what I am saying, then refer to Wikipedia and Port-Forwarding. You need to know what you are doing to stay safe at this point. Just doing it without knowing what you do is maybe not the best when fiddling with firewalls. Pman will for sure have precise numbers on Bandwidth and player numbers etc... to help you to quantify your possibilities.
