Hi,

I was wondering if it would be possible to remove certain buildings, towns etc and increase the amount of trees?

Say I would like to recreate the Vietnam highlands in the highlighted area of the map

Is that at all possible?

I don't really care about EDGE right now, we could be waiting another year for that. I was wondering if it's at all possible with the current map.

Kind regards

I know a bunch of modders have inserted trees..but I have never seen anyone remove anything from the map. I think that may be hardcoded in the map itself.

You might be able to remove the models, or replace them with blank models, or I guess even better, create a model of a group of trees the size of the building model and use that as a replacement, this would affect the entire map of course.

As for adding trees, you could add static tree models and place them in the map editor.

That's what I was afraid of. That's a shame. I recall there was a mod to increase the grass density, I wonder if the same thing could be done with trees.

Thanks for your input

I'm sure there's a workaround somewhere. Thanks for the input

There is a way, but as everyone says it will affect the whole map. Simply find the .edm files associated with all the buildings you need to remove, and delete them from Shapes Folder.

That will remove them from the whole map.

Some of the shapes of buildings you remove will probably be in the structures that you can insert in game and you could simply swap those for the .edm files related to some of the tree groups, in effect you delete a building and put a tree or group of trees in it's place. And if you have a tree group that you can insert then you can put them wherever you want.

I have done this for my map to enhance the airfields we have in game and it looks a lot better than the game map, but in your case I think you are looking at a major change to the whole map and I'm not sure you will get a jungle effect as such, just lots of forest.

It is a long process though, and every time the game updates you will have to make the changes again, because the update will restore the defaults.

If I remember it correctly, back in the FC2 days this was done in the .scn files where the High, Medium and Low versions were effectively a database of static objects placed around the map. By editing the database, you were able to change what static map objects were placed where such as Forests, Buildings and Towns.

I don't know if it still works that way however, but it could be a place to start.

rubblebeam dont know if this helps. A long time ago someone wanted to remove the static objects from airports and posted a mod for that. I couldnt get it to work but maybe this is a start.
