mj3437 Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 I have 21 backup folders in my DCS folder. The oldest was created over a year ago. Can I safely delete these? ED Team c0ff Posted June 5, 2014 ED Team Posted June 5, 2014 Backup folders are for the files which updater wants to delete, but thinks they belong to a user. Dmitry S. Baikov @ Eagle Dynamics LockOn FC2 Soundtrack Remastered out NOW everywhere - https://band.link/LockOnFC2.
joey45 Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 If you have edited any files or swaped models the orginals get moved to the backup folders. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. mj3437 Posted June 6, 2014 Author Posted June 6, 2014 Thanks for the info. MJ msi Z170A MB, i7-6700k @ 4.0GHz, 32GB DDR4 GeForce GTX 970 4GB, Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB Acer Predator Z271, 650w PSU, Corsair Carbon500R, MS FFB 2
Flagrum Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Sounds as if you usually have mods installed when you accept the request of the updater to perform an update. Make it a habit to deinstall your mods before accepting an update. Use JSGME.
mj3437 Posted June 6, 2014 Author Posted June 6, 2014 I'm not aware of any mods installed. I have never installed any intentionally. MJ msi Z170A MB, i7-6700k @ 4.0GHz, 32GB DDR4 GeForce GTX 970 4GB, Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB Acer Predator Z271, 650w PSU, Corsair Carbon500R, MS FFB 2
SkateZilla Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 I'm not aware of any mods installed. I have never installed any intentionally. MJ Most of my backup folders contain the LUAs and CFG Files I Modified for one reason or another. Every patch I have to restore the Modded LUAs to Export A-10Cs Gauges to Helios for Example. Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
Mike Busutil Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 What is recommended? Delete all of the old backup folders and leave the newest folder alone? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Checkout my user files here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/filter/user-is-Mike Busutil/apply/
SkateZilla Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 make sure you dont need the contents anymore, then delete them. like I said, it's usually files you modded or added. (in my case all the modded indicator files for export, modified modelviewer autoexec lua, and some extra liveries I had loaded.) Flagrum Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 What is recommended? Delete all of the old backup folders and leave the newest folder alone? "It depends." Do you know why those files were modified? Do you need them to be modified in the now updated version of DCS? Why were they left modified prior updating? Can't you use JSGME to keep track of those modifications? But in either way, if you had modified them directly in the game folder or if you used JGSME, you will need to check the modifications before applying them again (by means of JGSME or by just copying them back from the backup folders). You need to make sure that the modifications are compatible with the new DCS version.

MJ If you happen to have SU-35 training videos installed, backup folders were generated by the normal update process, because of the minor issue with that video "module". It will be fixed soon. You are safe to delete those folders. Dmitry S. Baikov @ Eagle Dynamics LockOn FC2 Soundtrack Remastered out NOW everywhere - https://band.link/LockOnFC2.
