rofl yeah i feel very uncomfortable when getting WVR.

Mostly because i can't see crap, other people must have better eyes, i see them looking at something (in tracks for instance) , and even than i just can't see the bandit.

Then when i press my face literally against the screen i can make them out

Maybe i should practice WVR against A.I, with labels on, to get an idea of the paths followed after merge , to get a rough idea where an enemy should be after i pass him at a certain angle

Best way yo get over your discomfort is to, just do it. Start bringing Aim-9s. A lot of times you'll smack someone with one just because they know you're an F-15 and thus only expect 120s. If you get him in the hud bore sight tends to works out better, than vertical scan.

I just can't see em .

Also that damned HUD in my face is distracting when i'm looking out my side windows.

Track_IR is giving issues as well, can't really look above me , it seems restricted in it's angels. Need to adjust taht i guess.

You need to adjust a few things:

1) The angle of the tracker dots or the track clip, so the TIR sees all of them at the lowest and highest deflection of the head you can use.

2) Your distance from the TIR. Too close is bad, you'll move the tracking equipment out of view

3) Adjust the TIR profile so that it gives you maximum head rotation/deflection before it is no longer able to see one of the tracking points (there are 3, it needs to be able to see all 3).

T-IR question (might help him out too)..

if the T-IR head-mounted device is on the left side of your head (mounted to headset/mic - the "pro clip" iirc), doesn't it make sense to place the T-IR receiver to your left as well??

that way, no matter how you move your head (obviously within limits - but those limits are more liberal than straight -on), the position and alignment of your head is being tracked

I have the normal clip and hat . If i sit to close and move farther back, that will mean that i'll see less even ! :D

I need a bigger monitor . But first, i'll try to set the monitor a bit higher, so that the dots are a little BELOW the middle of the tracker screen. Maybe that'll help.

I also need to learn to keep my head perfectly still when trying to find a bandit with my eyes.

Any way i can get the hud out my face when i look at side windows ? It appears not everybody has this bug , is it a bug that comes with a particular graphic setting or something ?

I've had this as long as i can remember.

edit* I bended the reflection bits a little bit, that helped a bunch when looking up !

I know some people do this, but I don't have experience with it myself :)

Yeah, I use a 46" TV ...

Yep, you need to develop a scanning technique. I suggest looking for the US Army Stinger Field Manual :)

There's a 'mini hud' setting, maybe that's what you're talking about. Turn it off in the options. If that's not it ... screenshot or it didn't happen :D

Great! Whatever works :)

Yep. And that was some seriously ham-fisted flying. Why's that bag on there? :D

I'm wondering why you're constantly leaned to the right and then looking at the left. You should lean back on your seat, recenter, then zoom in a bit, that lets you see the entire HUD.

From what I saw in your video, a good starting point for visual acuity would be: zoom in. You don't need to see your whole cockpit without moving the head.

Personally, I like to adjust the zoom so that I can see (while centered) from the radar screen to the top of the canopy bar (or however it is called) - something like that, I don't use the F-15 that much. If you need to see something else in your cockpit, move your head, that's what TrackIR is for.

Some people might differ, but zooming in slightly is the first thing I do whenever I enter a game.

GGTharos must be referring to the 0:29 in the video, where you drop two tanks and leave the center one.

"Bag" = "External Fuel Tank"

And... yeah, your FOV is way too high, perhaps you are used to it from FPSes, which this isn't.

Being zoomed out is ok, just zoom in when you have to. Planes under certain circumstances are VERY hard to see even if you know where they are. That means, being able to comfortably zoom in/out while maneuvering and blacking out is extremely important. I personally use the slider on my TMW throttle currently.

I instantly feel extremely uncomfortable when zooming in. Feels like having these eye flaps on that they put on horses.

first thing i do is zoom out a little bit, need to see a little size window or i get panicy feeling. A bigger monitor would be beneficial though.

I just discovered this post. Quite a fun read, thanks :)

To answer what I was doing...

It was a kind of a combo effort:

1) I was really hoping the mountain would provide enough cover from Max and the incoming missile, until I could turn into him to finish the job.

2) In case it didn't, I was hoping the notch will save me, as it did.

Sometimes if I see on RWR that the AIM120 is about to hit me, I might make a sharp pull up in combination with the notch. In this case I didn't have time since I just came out of the sharp left turn. I just heard a "whoosh" of the missile going from left to right.

I didn't realize the missile was so close.

In other words, I got lucky :D
