williehayesjr Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I was doing the Landing training; and when I turned off of the runway, I saw this airman running across the tarmac. Is this a feature I can control by adding it to my created missions?
Yurgon Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I was doing the Landing training; and when I turned off of the runway, I saw this airman running across the tarmac. Is this a feature I can control by adding it to my created missions? Was it really an airman, or maybe just an armed soldier? Soldiers are simply infantry units that can be added to missions just like any other unit, and they can be assigned waypoints just like a ground vehicle. So in this case, it would be very simple to add such a unit to a mission. I just don't think that airmen are available in the list of units, but I might be wrong. In any case, you could just have an armed soldier play the role. :)
williehayesjr Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 Sorry, I assumed the A-10C was an Air Force asset. But you are right, it looks like a Soldier. Army = Soldiers Navy = Sailors Marines = Marines Air Force = Airman. All together equal ONE US Military
Yurgon Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 (edited) Sorry, I assumed the A-10C was an Air Force asset. But you are right, it looks like a Soldier. Army = Soldiers Navy = Sailors Marines = Marines Air Force = Airman. All together equal ONE US Military You're right of course, the A-10 is an Air Force asset (and Air National Guard AFAIK). What I meant, though, is that there are only a very few types of infantry units that could be selected in the mission editor. Regardless whether you place an A-10C or a Tornado or a MiG-29 on any airfield, there are only a few select types of Inf available (like Infantry M4 and Infantry M249 for US and Infantry Soldier Rus and Paratrooper AKS for Russia). That means that whatever kind of aircraft you select, if you wish to place personnel, you'll have to make do with what's available and, in turn, Soldiers will have to stand in for Airmen if that's who you want to portray in a mission. Edited June 11, 2014 by Yurgon Typo

Plus actually it is too bad that you cannot put the pilot on the ground, would be most useful if you are planning a CSAR mission... anyone heard if ED is planning to add pilots as units at some point in the future? Aginor Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 That would be cool. For the first version I could live with the same unit we already can control when we eject. So just simple walking around. Just to be able to spawn it in the ME. DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet
williehayesjr Posted June 13, 2014 Author Posted June 13, 2014 Hey Yurgon, thanks a lot for the info. I am encouraged to create a mission with soldiers.
Wrecking Crew Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Was it really an airman, or maybe just an armed soldier? It couldn't have been an airman -- they don't run, prolly because they have the best food. :) Visit the Hollo Pointe DCS World server -- an open server with a variety of COOP & H2H missions including Combined Arms. All released missions are available for free download, modification and public hosting, from my Wrecking Crew Projects site.
Yurgon Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 I am encouraged to create a mission with soldiers. Good idea, that's pretty straightforward. If you run into any problems with the Mission Editor or if strange things happen in your mission, the Missions Builder's Corner is the right place to ask questions and get advice about it. So far, the experts over there were able to answer all my questions. It couldn't have been an airman -- they don't run, prolly because they have the best food. :) Sounds plausible :D
