By the 1944 FAQ, the personal assigned to build WW2 1944 map was removed early.

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=126824

Map: No updates had been shown for sometime, person involved had been removed from the team early on. Its believed the map is not very far along at all, and delivery date of said map backs that up. (expected May 2015 with period AI units)

That was Almazi by your old post

He was return to the project or other team has been take the normandy WW2 develop? any update of the map develop and "new" period AI units?

I'm guessing the F18 must be pretty far along if they are giving its map precedent over the WWII map. To be honest WWII AI is more important to me because it could be included in the current map. Much rather be attacking Shermans, Panthers, and B17s than the ZSU 23-4 or M113 even if its on the current map.

I think the AI units and Map will come together, at least that sounds like the plan. It really hasnt been specified yet, I just hope whatever ground units they put in, they will work with CA :)

:( Not another year of ZSU 23-4s on the current map ... and I'm saying a year being optimistic. Hopefully they can pump these things out quicker when edge is finished.

Well there is a lot of models to be made, thats a lot of work, even if some are purchased they still have to be crafted to work with DCS. I think Ilya had some stuff done, but how much made it into ED's hands and how complete it is/was I dont know... I hope we could see the units before the map if that would be quicker, but I just dont know...

I think once the Spitfire (fourth plane) and the P-47 (fifth plane) are released ED will see how big the community has gotten and put precedence on the Normandy map... As well as additional WWII maps, ground objects, and more fly able aircraft.

Relative to current aircraft that require avionics systems, subsystems, classified systems, red tape and government approved access.... WWII aircraft are easier to fully model as realistic as possible.

Soon ED will put more emphasis on WWII products because the market is bigger and the subject matter is easily obtainable.

At least that's how I see it.... I don't know why anyone would want a 50% accurately modelled F-22 to shoot down a pixel 30 miles away on guesstimated radar systems (because the real system is classified) when that person could be flying a 95% accurately modelled P-47 swooping in and pumping 8 .50 cals worth of lead into a FW-190 that's trying to takedown a straggling B-17.

We'll see.... But I think this WWII market is on the cusp of exploding into something big... And I for one am excited!!!

The main problem for this old aircrafts are, you need documentation and find some, who had flow those old aircraft to their limits.

Back to the map, what will be the size of the Normandy map? Was ist bigger as NTTR?

Period ground units and Ai planes would being a bigger deal to me and probably most of the mission makers around here. Period Units can be thrown in on any map to make them playable or more realistic.

Sadly we're playing second fiddle to the F18 modern sim lovers because we aren't that important. :smartass:

Because to me prop planes are boring as hell to fly. See? I have my own opinion too  Everyone has different viewpoints and is entitled to their own set of preferences.

In regards to the rest of your post: we'll see. Not sure if you've noticed or not but the most talked about upcoming releases on these forums are the Mig-21 and the F/A-18C.

Lucky for us it seems there is plenty of plans in the works for each side :)

Yes, but your opinion is BAD, and you should FEEL BAD having it. :P

J/K, of course, I can see the appeal of getting as close as possible to flying a $50M instrument of technological terror as possible without joining the AF. I don't understand it, but I can see it. ;)

Modern combat and flying modern jets is all about superior systems management. I'm with Barrett_g... WWII was the pinnacle of skill-based combat aviation, IMHO, and I'm hoping it truly is on the cusp of a new wave of interest. I'd love to see the days like we had over a decade ago, where Hyperlobby was filled with several dozen servers, all packed, running scenarios from Dunkirk to pacific carrier ops to the defense of the Reich. I'm a gold backer of IL2:BoS, but since the Dora has arrived and I've spent a lot of time on the DoW server it's hard to go back and fly it. The multiplayer engine is far better optimized, but those dated cockpits are just hard to take.

If Edge delivers the promise of a better optimized engine and we get several warbirds on each side along with a period map or two that looks as good as the Crimea looks now, my wife is going to kill me 'cause she may never see me again. :)

We've fought WWII now virtually for far longer than the real thing lasted, but I hope it continues a lot longer. ED and their 3rd party devs will keep getting my money for every plane if they're up to the quality of the Pony and the Dora, and I'll smile while I pay them.

I don't know how successful it would be, but I'd certainly back a Kickstarter raising money for more WWII period maps. I also consider the Korean air war to be an extension of WWII combat in many ways, since the planes basically took prop systems and stuck a jet engine in it. I'd certainly back a Korean map, and will be lining up to get the Mig-15 the minute it's for sale.

One thing I really, really hope is that they include southern england bases for bombers to take off from. Now THAT would be completely awesome.

I wouldn't mind seeing a delay in the map if it meant adding this crucial part.

I agree. Having to add air-starts for allied aircraft for D-Day missions would decrease from the immersion a lot. Even just the Tangmere/Isle of Wight region would be good to have.

Yup, I would be happy with just the airbases being detailed to save time, and surrounding areas added as updates later.

You know what the good news is though... any map they release we can fly our WWII birds over... so its not all bad.
