Kocyra Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 So, I am new here, Sorry if this is in the wrong section or something. I recently got DCS, and am enjoying it, I also thought it was time to get some DLC since the Su-25t is getting kinda boring, a friend told me you do sales, and that I should wait. So I wait. And I see this. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=129630 My reaction is erhmagerdyes Then I seen Notice: Keys purchased here can no longer be used to activate DCS products on Steam. So... Now I am wondering, I wanna take part in this awesome deal, but am unsure what to do. Should I uninstall the steam version of DCS and download the plain version off the website? If so, must I download all the 6 files? (look at : http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/dcs_world/ and you'll understand) and do I HAVE to uninstall the steam version or can I keep both? Thanks - Kocyra
Kayos Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 I don't know why anyone uses the steam version. Everyone regrets it eventually. Especially when a new plane comes out and steam users have to wait a couple weeks min to get it. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Anyways, So that means if I want to partake in this sale and get a code I'll have to delete the steam version of DCS I already have an will have to get the game off the website instead?
fearlessfrog Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Kocyra, You can have both DCS World versions installed if you have the space, although people don't tend to, as the stand-alone version accepts keys from either version. Both versions use the same underlying activation, so you don't lose activations or need to reactive. There's a FAQ here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=113587 Kayos - in the past there was a bit of an advantage to the download times when things were busy, as Valves content network is slightly larger than EDs. Nowadays it's fine though. ~~~ http://www.mudspike.com
EtherealN Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Minor note as well: you don't strictly have to download separate installers. The standalone installer will, assuming you have a DCS account (for example through multiplayer - MP and the ED store uses the same account server), notice that you have licenses for X Y and Z modules and offer to install them for you. (It will also perform automatic updates when patches or new versions are released.) Kocyra Posted September 6, 2014 Author Posted September 6, 2014 So just to clarify, I must #1 Install from the website DCS world #2 make an account #3 Buy the DLCs I want from the shop during the Sept. 4 - Sept. 14 sale and I'm good to go?' I'll probably uninstall the steam version to clear up some hard-drive.
EtherealN Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 One minor note though: have you ever used your Steam-purchased modules in multiplayer? The "step 2" thing can be done easily through simply clicking multiplayer and creating an account there. MP accounts are the same thing. That way, your Steam keys will become immediately associated with that account, and if later using the DCS World installer from our site it will get automatically recognized and you can get the modules installed through the game itself. It is however important to ensure that you keep all purchases on one account. However, if there are mistakes and you accidently end up with multiple accounts, the website does have measures for you to move keys to any desired account. I've known about the game for a while but haven't had a joystick.
Worther_1 Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Question about Steam & DCS...I installed DCS a while ago. I seem to remember that I downloaded original version from website, and sometime later Steam said it recognised the game and included in into my library of games. I have DLC but bought them through the DCS world program and not Steam. Does this sound correct or is muddled mind playing tricks on me? (which allows your friends to see you playing and use the steam overlay, etc), It's likely still the stand alone version. Dirty Rotten Flieger Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 (edited) I have DCS through steam with most modules. Mig21bis will be available through DCS in 8 days but steam in 3 weeks. Can I just buy the module through DCS and install it in the steam folder ? When FW190 was released on steam I bought it through steam but it didn't unlock so I just downloaded the installer from DCS website and installed into the DCS world folder in steam folder...it worked. But I doubt it will work if I try buy Mig21 through DCS. Am I going to have to uninstall the whole thing from steam and download all the modules again separately? I obviously would really rather not have to download the 22gig again. I suppose I could have a separate DCS world just for MIg21 but I have P51 an FW190 so if I add bf109K4 and SpitIX in a different install I wonder if that would create problems. I don't really want two installs of DCS with some module on steam and some separate. Incase it's not clear in my country I have to pay by the gig I download so deleting and installing 20gig again is no small thing. Edited September 10, 2014 by Dirty Rotten Flieger
