doveman Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 As you can see from this screenshot, I don't have "Module Manager" in my DCS menu I've tried running repair and even deleting the contents of bin and running repair but it's still the same. I don't really want to have to delete everything, download DCS and then reinstall from scratch. The bulk of DCS is in the Bazar folder (11GB) anyway and it doesn't look like the files in there are anything to do with the GUI. So if anyone can advise what files are used by the GUI I can try deleting them and run a repair to replace them. I'm not sure why repair isn't replacing whatever broken files are causing this problem anyway though. I also can't activate my modules. I just upgraded my mobo/CPU, so it prompts me to do so and already has the key entered but then says "incorrect time server settings" error when I click OK. I can't deactivate them now either, due to the hardware change but I'm not bothered about that. I checked the time in the BIOS and that's correct, to hour and minute anyway, my phone doesn't show seconds but I've been told it doesn't need to be that accurate. I don't think the BIOS time should matter anyway, as Windows syncs itself to a timeserver and there's not much point doing that if it just ignores that and uses the BIOS time instead. I tried activating the alternate way via the star-force website as well and that says my hardware code was generated more than one day ago. I can't use the website to try and deactivate, as if I select "alternate method" from the module deactivation screen, it says "Are you sure" and then gives an error that it failed, without ever showing me any codes to enter into the website. doveman Posted September 13, 2014 Author Posted September 13, 2014 Yeah, it's installed on my S: partition and my Steam install is on D: I checked with process monitor and it loads all the files from S:, not D: If it was the Steam version, surely the repairer/updater wouldn't even be there or work would it? After I deleted the contents of bin/ and ran the repairer to replace them, wouldn't that have removed any Steam files, even if I had put them there by accident (which I don't think I've done)? I mean, the other files are just data aren't they, so there'd be no difference between the Steam and non-Steam versions of those would there? I haven't tested this and if anything bad happens ... it is your own problem then! :o) Check the file ...\Config\retail.cfg and then delete it. As far as I understand the relevant .LUAs, if this file is NOT present, DCS assumes it is the ED web download version and as such the module manager should be available. What I do not know is, if there are possible further dependencies - like something concerning the autoupdater or similar stuff. Again, do at your own risk. (I am so overly carefull here as it is strange that - if my suspicion is true - that your ED download install somehow ended up with that file. Probably something more serious went wrong earlier and this is just a mere symptom and not the error itself!) edit: for more details, check out ...\MissionEditor\MissionEditor.lua, function loadTypeOfSale() Edited September 13, 2014 by Flagrum

God knows how that got there (it said STEAM inside) but deleting it has given me the Module Manager back  Clicking on Module Manager and it detected the new modules I just purchased in the flash sale and downloaded them. After that, I could view all the Serial numbers for my modules in MM. Going to an Instant Action for the Sabre, which was one of the new modules I've just purchased, it threw up the activation prompts for all my modules and I had the same error when trying to activate them, until it got to the Sabre, which accepted my key and loaded. Then I tried the Mi-8, which was the other module I bought today and the same thing happened, although I didn't have to enter my key for the Mi-8 when it got to that and it just loaded. I would have thought if MM has the keys already (not sure where it got them from!) then that's how it should be though, so I'm not sure why I had to enter the Sabre key. Not sure why it's throwing up the activation prompts for the other modules when I'm trying to launch the Sabre or Mi-8 either. I guess I'll try deleting the modules one by one and see if the repairer gets them working again. I won't delete the missions as they're the biggest part of most of the modules! As I said, something must have caused this mix-up earlier and who knows what else is broken now. Install it from scratch.

I deleted everything in the DCS folder, including the mods folder and reinstalled after downloading the current version and it's still throwing up the same errors when I try and activate my old modules :( Maybe there's something messed up in the registry. I only had to manually install a few drivers (sound, NIC, Intel chipset). I made a True Image backup in case that didn't work and I needed to do a Universal Restore but it wasn't necessary in the end. I wouldn't expect Windows 7 to be so easy but I read that it had been improved with Windows 8.1, so thought I'd try it. Anyway, the time server error that DCS was throwing up disappeared after I deleted the old registry entries (I kept the F-86 and Mi-8 ones as I'd successfully activated them today, it was just the older modules that were already installed before I upgraded that were having problems), so it seems that error message was a bit misleading.
