Essah Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Spotted this screenshot in the screenshot thread and couldn't help but notice the missile looking suspiciously like an Aim-9. I know some of the former Warsaw pact countries that joined NATO fitted Aim-9 to their MiG-21, Romania and Egypt As far as I know. Is that modelled in the game? or what's the deal with this screenshot?
statrekmike Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I believe you are seeing a Russian copy of the Sidewinder, I can't remember exactly what it is called in Russia but it was such a good copy that you could even interchange parts with the Sidewinder.
mvsgas Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 It should be a K-13/AA-2 w1sdRoxcpa8 To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..
Knubinator Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 The K-13 was announced as a weapon, and it was a direct copy of the AIM-9B. Though, maybe they're just using the external model of the -9M? Like they did with the F-86. i7 4790k @ 4.4, 32GB RAM, RX480 GTR I fly it all.
YoYo Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 (edited) Its a R-13M, not Sidewinder. WinterH Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Screenshot obviously is R-13M. But Sidewinders on a MiG isn't that far out of place may be, I think Egypt and may be Finland did load Sidewinders on their MiG-21s. What Sidewinder variants, this I don't know... I believe missiles from AIM-9L on requires a different rail & wiring due to different cooling method. So my guess would be AIM-9 variants that was put on MiG-21 may have been earlier variants, which are more or less equal to K-13M anyway. Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V DCS-Dismounts Script

lmp Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Only the R-13M isn't supposed to look like the Aim-9B, but like this:
