ff4life4 Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 I have read that the r-60m has some limited all aspect ability. Yet, however I was approaching an a10 from the 7 or 8 o'clock position and my seeker would not lock on, unless I was pretty much directly on his 6. Is this proper behavior? I would have though that the exposed engines would make it easier. I haven't had any issues against f15s as long as I was in the rear hemisphere. Any one have a similar/different experience?
Philipp2 Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 A10 engines have less EGT I think . But I don't know if thats simulated in DCS. The seeker has a +/- 20° view, so it should locked the target.
ff4life4 Posted September 28, 2014 Author Posted September 28, 2014 Good point about egt. However I've also noticed the r-60 is supposed to be an improvement to the r-13, and during my testing I've noticed almost zero difference between them locking on

ff4life4 Posted September 28, 2014 Author Posted September 28, 2014 Hm. The only relevant misses we have are R-13m R-13m1 R-60a R-60m I have never heard of r-60m1, and I don't believe we have it

I was mixing up the R13 M and M1 with the R60M. Fancy trying Star Citizen? Click here!
ff4life4 Posted September 28, 2014 Author Posted September 28, 2014 Not a problem and yes it was the r-60m. It just seems like it should be more sensitive to heat, but I have never used the real thing so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I did read an account from a ground crew guy that said he's gotten the seeker to track a jet head on from 2-3km, while the he was on the ground.. I dont know how accurate that is either. I know the r3r is all aspect, but when I get visual, I like to kill my radar to stay stealthy,

That was enough to generate the tone for the pilot. 1
WinterH Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 FWIW, in my experience so far, R-60M did show some all aspect ability on F-5, F-86 and Su-25. I haven't been able to lock from head on, but it did acquire from anywhere in rear hemisphere, sides, top and bottom, unlike R-13M1, which seem to be able to only lock right behind, looking into jet pipe. I do think different heat signatures for different airframes may actually be modeled in DCS, prop fighters and even F-86 seem to be difficult to acquire with IR missiles for both players and AI missile threats. As for R-3R being all aspect, it seemed to me so far that RP-22SMA radar we have, loses lock much more often when target isn't receding. I'm pretty sure this is correct, different aircraft have different heat signatures. A10's use a bypass turbojet so will have a much lower heat signature.
KLR Rico Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Don't forget the hawg's vertical stabilizers hide the exhaust signature for a good portion of those off-angle rear aspects. i5-4670K@4.5GHz / 16 GB RAM / SSD / GTX1080 Rift CV1 / G-seat / modded FFB HOTAS
ff4life4 Posted September 29, 2014 Author Posted September 29, 2014 Makes sense. Thanks for the replies guys. Next time I go hog hunting I'll take a pair of r3r's :)
tusler Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Can the R60m lock onto a heat signature after it is launched or does it have to be locked on pre-launch only? ff4life4 Posted September 29, 2014 Author Posted September 29, 2014 In my experience it has to be locked. And the launch button has to be held for a second or two, which feels like an eternity!! Especially against real players
Sceptre Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Did you try the R-60A? I cannot notice difference between M and A, but I am sure there is one RTX 2070 8GB | 32GB DDR4 2666 RAM | AMD Ryzen 5 3600 4.2Ghz | Asrock X570 | CH Fighterstick/Pro Throttle | TM MFDs | TrackIR 5
Shark-Bait Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I saw a statement by the Russian Defence Ministry and they mentioned the R-60 and they said it has a guaranteed hit zone when you're within 5km and a max range of 12km... The game seems to divide the 12 by 10 to get a 1.2km distance for it? o.O
