GGTharos Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Is this just paint scheme? It's be great if it was a tank with more polys to make it more rounded looking ... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Bungle_uk Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Perhaps try this request in the modeling forum if you have not done so already. Maybe more fruitful.
Wild.Bill.Kelso Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Good Point Thomas! Everything in that screenshot is rendered beautifully, except that tank. It looks crappy.

Guest ThomasDWeiss Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 Yes - the drop tank feels like an afterthought. Here is the link web page
SuperKungFu Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 instead of the droptank (which they should redo)...they should redo the entire eagle as a bonus lol. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Pilotasso Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 They should fix its weapons instead. Its a flying paper weight. .
Mizzy Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 Thomas They have no rendered the Mig 29 fuel tanks properly either and yet we get loads of new weapon models but no proper F15 and Mig 29 fuel tanks  Come ED, pull your finger out and get these little jobs done :) My rosey lees getting cold, lets see if ED can muster up a relpy! Mizzy.
Guest ThomasDWeiss Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 Lock On's best model is the F/A-18 - and its drop tank although rivet-free is way better that any other. Every time I look at it I wonder why ED went to so much trouble making such a detailed model ...
AKULA_OPTIMUS Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 Yeah, the hornet is better modeled than all flyables planes (except su-25t) , what was he "dark intentions" behind this???:icon_twis :icon_twis
SuperKungFu Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 some guy in ED probably liked the F-18 lol...but why not the flanker. Its a russian team...stick to your homeland planes! lol [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
504MrWolf Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 drop tanks like most of the surface of the F-18 is made from composites and not metal. www.VVS504.co.uk www.lockonskins.co.uk
WhiskeyRomeo Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 I know people would like the drop tanks to match the aircraft skins. But its probably more realistic that the drop tanks NOT match the aircraft paint scheme. There are 2 types of drop tanks. The everyday "pretty" drop tanks the aircraft fly with from the home drome and are re-used over and over. These are the tanks that get matching paint jobs that many people see when the aircraft go to visit air shows and such public events. These drop tanks are never actually meant to be "dropped". Then there are the real "combat" drop tanks. They're usually WRM (war reserve material) either a few sets of pre-assembeled tanks, or un-assembled NFTBU (Nestable Fuel Tank kits) tanks that get "screwed and glued" together and whomped up by the 2A6X4 fuels techs (with non-technical augmentees by other troops). These are the drop tanks actually meant to be dropped in combat. And they don't match the aircraft paint jobs by any stretch of the imagination.
iVIPER21 Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 ... here goes ;) I'd be willing to model the F15 610 US gal fuel tank over the next couple weeks - but I need the dimensions and a 3 view of it. I did a very quick search but couldn't find anything online. If you have the necessary info and pics of the more detailed sections/mounts, post here or PM me! Of course, we'd have to hope that ED wants it. Also, they want very detailed user submitted models - no "eyeballing" measurements n such ;) If I get enough info, I'll start a new topic in the 3D models section.
Crusty Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 Whilst I am sure you can come up with many pictures to say otherwise....both these pics of aircraft in service in iraq shows some nice painted tanks and my experiance of day to day RAF movements generally show aircraft fitted with matching tanks...your milage may vary personely I dont give a rats armpit what the tanks look like:music_whistling: P.S. ... I m of the view that drop tanks of any kind dont generaly get dropped at all...with the air superiority enjoyed by western air forces in recent conflicts there is just no need to drop them and run...generaly speaking, ill bet 95% come back from ops with tanks still present oo err...missus:animals_bunny: ** Anti-Pastie**
chrno120 Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 The F-16 too has nice fuel tanks too.. Why is it that AI aircraft (except su25T & Ka-50) had better 3d models than Flyable a/c? I've been wondering since day 1 of Lock On. Maybe ED doesn't really make much 3d models themselves but rather it was done by volunteer 3d modellers. The most stupid member in the forum
zaelu Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 I'll ask too... Is the canopy of the F-15 in this picture modded somehow? It looks like the one on the F-18 with those "Fresnel environment reflection" like in here edit... oops... I think I found the answer :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] I5 4670k, 32GB, GTX 1070, Thrustmaster TFRP, G940 Throttle extremely modded with Bodnar 0836X and Bu0836A, Warthog Joystick with F-18 grip, Oculus Rift S - Almost all is made from gifts from friends, the most expensive parts at least
Guest Cali Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 It would be nice to have the sun glare also, WOV models this nicely. Maybe this can be added in BS or the next project.
