With all this DB 605 whine going on, is anyone going to do the Mk 108? Sounds like a machine gun right now.

Is the sound modelling being worked over alongside the graphics in Edge? I hope so, because that seems to be quite restricting at present.

I don't find it to be very restricting. Once you understand what each sound file does ingame, you're pretty much set up to mod from there. It's all about finding samples and refining the audio.

This has always been the biggest issue for me, in pretty much every flight sim I've played going way back to the DOS days. The guns sound like they're firing from a mile away. Several of the more detailed accounts of pilots from WWII indicate just how loud and jarring the guns are. From Bud Anderson's 'To Fly and Fight':

and squeeze the trigger on the control stick between my knees gently. Bambambambambam! The sound is loud in the cockpit in spite of the wind shriek and engine roar. And the vibration of the Mustang's four. 50-caliber machine guns, two in each wing, weighing 60-odd pounds apiece, is pronounced.

And that was 4 50's out in the wing roots, not *cannons* firing from just a few feet directly in front of you. Those suckers should be LOUD.

Good news. It does make me wonder why the developers don't invest more into getting the sound right then.

I guess it is just not as high a priority as other stuff.

This is where guys like Diveplane and myself come into play :)

On the Topic of Cannons:

I'm focusing on engine at the moment. Cannons will surely come. Keep in mind that finding a source for such audio will be tough. But either myself or DivePlane will pull through.

Edit: It appears that DCS's cannon files are amazing. Probably just the .sdef files will need some work. Even in modding this, I'm very impressed by the files DCS is using. They just don't seem to be using them very well.
