sgtsev3n Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 hello, i wish that the Devs will release the terrain editor sooner or later to allow the community to create theyr own terrains/maps. this would add more content to the game and allows the community to create more content + it could make the modding community more alive when mappers come do DCS and are interested to map for this game.
GeorgeLKMT Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Unfortunately, no. SDK for terrain development will only be available to licensed 3rd parties. No community made maps... ■ L-39C/ZA Czech cockpit mod ■ My DCS skins ■
msalama Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 No community made maps... Really? Who said this and where? The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
cichlidfan Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Really? Who said this and where? Wags. The Map SDK is available to qualified 3rd party development teams. Aginor Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Yeah, that's really a pity. I had planned doing some modding myself, starting simple, with a Wake Island map or something like that. And I am pretty sure many modders would have taken a look into map creation and doing some cool stuff. It is sad (even though the suspected reasons make sense) that ED decided to do it like that. msalama Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Wags. Right... well that sucks  The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
VincentLaw Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 (edited) Access to the terrain editor was actually the only reason I backed DCS WWII. (I would back DCS Cow if someone promised me a terrain editor) The Fw-190 is pretty nice though. Edited January 21, 2015 by VincentLaw [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
KaspeR32 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Yeah that does really stink. I can understand ED wants to keep a level of quality, but for free, community made mods, I don't see the point in limiting the map SDK to certain people. Oh well, their loss. joey45 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Whats stopping you applying??? Get a team together and start.. You will have to sign NDA's and all that. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. "Me, the 13th Duke of Wybourne, here on the ED forums at 3 'o' clock in the morning, with my reputation. Are they mad.." https://ko-fi.com/joey45
VincentLaw Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Whats stopping you applying??? Get a team together and start.. You will have to sign NDA's and all that. But I would need a good plan with a detailed proposal and probably a team and/or experience and examples of previous work. I just want to make silly maps like DCS: Moon, and that is exactly what ED wants to avoid. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Aginor Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Yeah, but I am pretty sure they won't accept it if you say "it might take a year or two and perhaps it will look pretty bad, and oh, I am going to release it for free. And no, you won't see a cent of money for it". DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet
KaspeR32 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 But I would need a good plan with a detailed proposal and probably a team and/or experience and examples of previous work. I just want to make silly maps like DCS: Moon, and that is exactly what ED wants to avoid. Not even new, but what if someone just wanted to add to NTTR? Maybe an airport (Henderson Exec.) or add a few more modern buildings to the strip in Las Vegas.. Look at all the people that make mods for the current map. Building textures, forest, grass, runways, trees, and fences to name a few. Unless, without the SDK a lot of that will still be possible by replacing textures... then I'm just an idiot and I'll stop talking. :music_whistling: Intel i5-2500k @ 4.4GHz w/ H70 liquid cooler, ASRock PRO3-M Z68 Mobo, 32G 1600Mhz Mushkin RAM, EVGA GTX970 4GB , OCZ Agility 3 128g SSD, SanDisk 240g SSD, Win7 64-bit --Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/livingfood --
Aginor Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Well, textures are one thing, and I am happy we can mod those. But adding and altering 3D objects would be really cool, I don't expect that to happen (except the way it is possible now, with the ME). DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet
ponhard Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Those games/simulators that have survived longest are those who let their community make content. Arma series, FSX, P3D, Half Life... Aginor Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Yeah, but it is ED's business strategy to do it differently. We should accept that. Maybe one day they change their minds, and then I'll be ready. :) DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet

ED Team NineLine Posted January 21, 2015 ED Team Posted January 21, 2015 Access to the terrain editor was actually the only reason I backed DCS WWII. (I would back DCS Cow if someone promised me a terrain editor) The Fw-190 is pretty nice though. Yeah, yet another promise made that shouldnt have been, besides it wasnt the full tools, he wanted to give backers the tools to build a map but not compile, not sure that would be possible. My thoughts on the tools are that they are extremely powerful, giving them away would be a little crazy, I think one day down the road I would like to see them sold, but I understand right now, that they are trying to showcase EDGE and the new maps, keeping control of the quality makes sense in this case.
