BitMaster Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 (edited) My soon going to be wife is gonna kill me but I plundered the honeymoon stash ;) HAHA The GTX 980 Poseidon finally has an arrival date at my wholesale distributor so I placed the order, along with a 250 GB Samsung 850 Pro, 16GB DDR3 2400MHz Corsair modules, a Thrustmaster Warthog Hotas and some parts for my sons PC, GTX 960 and same SSD. Delivery is said to be the 20th this month, I am so freaking excited :) Along with this upgrade I ordered my Water-cooling System at http://www.watercool.de. I went with the external radiator MO-RA3 420LT with the optional 4 x 230mm fans, CPU HeatKiller Rev.4 and the Mainboard set for my Asus P8P67 rig, Eheim Watercool Pump Ceramic. I know the water-cooling is more than a 2nd 980 GTX Poseidon but my board won't allow SLI, only CF and the PSU would also need to be replaced. I keep that open for Skylake etc.. and I HATE squeaking 80mm fans I hate them so much that I skip a 2nd Poseidon and get a WC instead !!! I should be able to run a fairly cool 4.63GHz setting while also OCìng the Poseidon if need to be. Since I am only playing at 1080p there is no need to OC the GPU I guess, we will see and adjust accordingly. If EDGE really supports SLI without drawbacks I might go for a 2nd Poseidon and 4k, the cooling system is powerful enough to accept triple SLI as far as the guy on the phone told me. So all thats left for amazon are the Combat Rudders from Saitek and Track IR5. Gonna hit that button tomorrow and get things round and finished. Still need a new tower, thinking about Corsair Carbide 500R, built that for a friend and really like the case, quiet despite the large fans were blowing, exactly what Bit needs ! It's been a long way from a MacBookPro Retina and a Logitech Freedom Cordless Joystick back to full scale gaming rig with a separate cooling tower and HOTAS and rudders. I had the F16 and TQS and RCS before, so that is nothing new but I am really really eager to see how Track IR5 changes my immersion !!! Bit hopping in circles !!! ....ahhh wife comes RUN !!!!!! Keep us posted as the parts arrive and as you build it. I want to see that watercooling. I couldn't justify watercooling myself....even at stock, these top end desktops run all current games well...and especially at 1080p. But hey...would be nice to have that cooling room for future overclocking years down the road. BitMaster Posted February 2, 2015 Author Posted February 2, 2015 For sure will keep you up to date. I called the water-cooler guy again after he sent the 2nd quote and mentioned a few things so I reverted back to the the 360 version of the MO-RA3 as he said the 420 will not really fit any 200mm and bigger fans etc... Nah, they should all hide well inside and behind the mesh, I got young kids with tiny fingers ! So after he sends me his final quote I will go for it and order that one. I opted for some quick connect fittings to disengage the radiator and the GPU with minimal fluent loss, 0.2ml, I guess that saves some mayor headaches when working in the system. Gonna be a total restart for me, new Hotas & Track IR, I may finally consider the A10-C tutorials again LoL like 3rd time in 1 year+ I waited for the Hotas to fly the A10-C after I found out that it is just unmanageable with the Stick I have. 10 Buttons + Coolie . BitMaster Posted February 2, 2015 Author Posted February 2, 2015 grats whaddya mean only running 1080? with that system?? 8) My son needs a screen and I am tempted to give him my 27" Full HD LED thing and get me the damn Asus 27" QHD Gaming Monitor. I have to buy one anyway, so I may do the son-dad trick. My current one, which I got for free I have to say, so I don't bitch about it, only has 60 FPS which is not ok for the rig that will be sitting there soon, I know that 1st-eye witness. i love the Ka and I can just NOT read the cockpit labels, if it was 1 touch finer I may can, I can at 2880x1800 on my Macbook Pro Retina, but that is no way fluent enough to use, just to see how higher res looks, and it looks awesome at 2880, I can only imagine 4k clarity in the cockpit, not really for outside, but inside view. Been staring at a 5k Mac in the Mall lately, ehhh blistering ... awesome... not the mac thing, the image qualty at close range and normal range. QHD will for sure work without forcing me to go SLI as I really don't want that right now. Motherboard PSU CPU HDs and such was free and thats why I could go for a 980 GTX and WC, I am no rich guy. BitMaster Posted February 7, 2015 Author Posted February 7, 2015 Some of the parts have arrived and I have had my first flights with TrackIR so far. Easy to set up and use, needed to tune sensibility down to SLOW and even some more as my eyes started to feel a heavy strain ( right word ? ) and after less than 2 hours I had to stop flying. I have to fine-tune the smoothness and need to be fully "here" and not half asleep as last night, also had the cough and flue for a couple days and generally, I should go to bed and not fly LoL. I also hooked up the Rudders.....and THAT totally screwed me over !!!! It is sooooooooo different ( again ) to switch back to rudders after years with a twist stick, it's gonna take a couple dozen crashes and curses before this is 2nd hand nature again, meanwhile I twist the stick and push the pedal... and hope & pray haha. I smacked the Dora 4 x in a row for take-off until I gave up for the night and took the Pony for a spin, that I could take-off and land with no problems.... I am glad that worked. The TM-Hotas has arrived too, along with my RAM but it is at a b-partners place inFrankfurt, like a 150km drive 1 way, so I wait till the rest is in and make 1 drive to pick it all up. So no Hotas this weekend. The Cooling systems is due actually, don't have a tracking number or such, if it doesn't come monday I am gonna call them, its COD so they better deliver if they want money ! BitMaster Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 Still waiting.....sigh :( The from watercool.de said he "hopes" to squeeze me in and give me on of the new HeatKiller 4 CPU coolers. they manufacture themselves and it takes it's time to work through the backlog on orders for this new cooler....hmmmm :(( Anyway, I also ordered the Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q 27" screen as I found out that my current 27" 60Hz is no match for the TIR and fast head movements..... xxJohnxx Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Hi, I am by no means an expert in the topic and I just finished my first water cooling build a week ago. But let me give you one advice: I opted for some quick connect fittings to disengage the radiator and the GPU with minimal fluent loss, 0.2ml, I guess that saves some mayor headaches when working in the system. Include as many quick disconnects into your build as you can. If you have the money for it (I know they are very expensive) try to have everything disconnect by quick disconnects. I tried to keep the costs down and only ordered 4 of them (2 for the CPU cooling block and 2 for the GPU bridge) and after only one week of use I am kinda regretting not buying 4 more and at least have the pumps being connected to quick disconnects as well. Background: I modded both my water pumps (from plastic to metal case) and as a result after about a week one of the two pumps is leaking just a tiny amount of liquid (just barley enough to keep the rubber pad it is standing on moist). Now to get that pump fixed I would have to drain my whole system, remove the pump while there might still be some liquid left (that will foreseeably create a mess), fix the pump, hook it up again and refill the system again. If I had quick disconnects in place it would be an easy solution. Disconnect the pump, fix it and reconnect it. Have fun with the system! Be careful while filling it though. Mine leaked at the weirdest places initially. :pilotfly: Check out my YouTube: xxJohnxx Intel i7 6800k watercooled | ASUS Rampage V Edition 10 | 32 GB RAM | Asus GTX1080 watercooled

They are about 20 € per pair in the size I need them. TBH, 3 x 20 € won't matter much when I do the total for this rig but may add much to the practical side. Since their new HeatKiller IV Pro is still in 1st production any my one hasn't fallen off the CNC yet I may add that to my order, I just added a Backplane for the 1156 Socket as that makes sense too. BitMaster Posted February 14, 2015 Author Posted February 14, 2015 The Corsair AXi-1200 PSU came in yesterday. What a freakin' toy !!! TBH, I should have done the "unboxing" video as this boy really deserved to have a video. I have put the PSU in the Corsair Carbide 500r Case, 4 screws, thats all I have done yet. By mid next week the SSD's will come in and that will allow me to pit the rig together and move/reinstall Win7. The real bad thing is, my current 480GTX does not have DP and the Asus Screen ONLY has DP, so I have to wait with connecting the 27"er until the 980 arrives around 24th. This really is stupid :( I have all sorts of adapters, even DP->DVI but its wrong way round and I am not even sure if there is such an adapter available, DP-Cable--2--DVI-NvidiaCard. Even if there would be such an adapter, would it pass along the goodies ? Gsync, 144Hz etc.. ? Well, I have to wait anyway, parts come in rather slow this time, I am happy its my own and not a customers PC, not all have this patience :) Bit Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X

The only time I've seen/heard it spinning was right after unboxing when trying out the self-test function. Corsair Link software is a nice toy, too. Yeah, the AX1200(i) is quit impressive. The silent running on low loads (I think it was even up to around 50%) is awesome, especially on silent running rigs. It's just a pity that the Corsair Link software can be incompatible with certain motherboard chipset drivers (mainly the Intel ones) and cause Bluescreens. BitMaster Posted February 15, 2015 Author Posted February 15, 2015 The Corsair Link Software is next to useless I have found out :( Well, I bought it cause I needed more than my 750 CX-M Corsair was capable of and the Link software is just a goodie on top but: It seems like if you have Asus MB Monitoring SW installed you cannot grab the data from the different channels ( rpm, temp, Volts etc. ). Since I need the Asus SW to overclock I will deinstall Corsair-Link and forget I ever had it :) Yes, it is quiet, very quiet. No comparison to my old Chieftec CS-601 tower with 4 x 80mm squeekers. Together with the Carbide 500r it is already very quiet while still waiting for the Water-cooling stuff. The loudest things are the 4 x 3.5" HDD that I still use, I may put them in bays with a switch or move them completely external, can't stand that whining sound of high rpm anymore. They often imply automatic overclocking functions that set a much higher than necessary processor voltage, causing it to run much hotter than it would have too. IMHO nothing beats overclocking in the BIOS with the voltages set as low as possible, while the system still runs stable. I currently use the Asus AI Suite 3 for overclocking, which did a wonderful job, however, as you have stated, the CPU core voltage is currently set at 1.392V. Any hints as to where to start with the CPU Core Voltage compared to the automated approach by the Asus software? When I overclocked my i7-3770K I just increased the default voltage around 0.1V and started to put some load on the CPU with Prim95 or Intel Burn Test. If it ran stable for some time, I would decrease the voltage by 0.02V and try again. Once I started to get BSODs, I would increase the voltage slightly again, until I found myself a good, stable value. Once I found my value, I ran a long term test (10 hours or longer) on that voltage, just to make sure everything was running as it should and within good temperature ranges. BitMaster Posted February 16, 2015 Author Posted February 16, 2015 (edited) No worries, I do know how to overclock and what to look for, it is just that with the Asus tool I can do exactly the same as in Bios while booted into Windows. The limit for my CPU is 1.5V, stay below and stay safe, go higher and wear it out pretty quick.
