Up to now, I prefered air to air combat (I get too low fps on the ground). However, I just started to try ground pounding. I can not figure out what I am doing wrong with the Maverick. 8 or 9 times out of 10, the Maverick will impact slightly behind and to the right of the target. The target, of couse, survives and I am left frustrated.

Here are two pictures of my problem.

First pic, locked on:

Second pic, crater slightly behind and to the right of the BMP and below and to the left of the center of the Maverick crosshairs:

Missed.jpg

Steps I am currently following.

1. Go air to ground mode.

2. Select the Maverick.

3. Slew the target cursor over the target.

4. Click the lock button (this makes the cursor static on the target)

5. Fire the Maverick.

6. Miss

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

If you fire at too close of a range it will not guide properly... have you experienced this while firing from longer ranges like 3nm for the K and 6nm for the D?

Are u sure u got a good lock on the target ? The little cross jut slightgly below the center on the EOD needs to blink. I believe this might be your problem.

Go air to ground mode.

2. Select the Maverick.

3. Slew the target cursor close to the target.

4. Click the lock button

5. move it over the target

check that you have a lock !!!

6. Fire the Maverick

7. Target destroyed

I your first picture the distance (2.7) to the target is ok and is not the problem.

One more thing, hold the aircraft stabel and level pre the launch.

My missle slider was set on 75%. I changed to it 100% and then tried 50%. Both made the missle work perfectly!!!! When it was at 75%, the maverick would shoot almost straight toward the target. Now it pops up in the air and then comes almost straight down for a kill all 6 times that I tried it!

Thank you guys for the help!

BTW, which is more realistic 50% or 100% for missile effectiveness?

I have the experience of such kind of problem, but it was more likely a bug, but it was in 1.11. The case was that all of our mavericks (about 10, and properly launched on clear target) in online game missed a shilka, and always hit the ground near the target. We checked it in F7 view, and the shilka was under the terrain :) So we should have tried it with a Kh-41, but it was not in the inventory :)

I've experienced this problem before, it only occurs on one particular persons server. They would run the server and there was a network out of sync as in one case vehicles were under ground. Another mission a Mig27 was underground and caused mahem as we were all in 25Ts or A-10s. If this occurs get someone else to host. IMO the mavericks rarely miss regardless of the slider position so long as correctly locked they'll hit the target.

...unless you are running v1.02, then you do need to make sure you have 50% or 100%.

S.h.r.i.k.e. never said what version he was running, so since he said that the 50%/100% setting fixed it, I am guessing it might be v1.02 ?

Well...as originally conceived and executed, it gave the player control over missile ... um...effectiveness. At "0%" you had to blunder into one (so did the AI) to get hit. At 100% missiles were death rays. This was something that was being demanded at the timein the name of player control. But it slowly became "broken" and (an assumption on my part) the person who coded it was no longer available to fix it. As it was a relatively minor thing, the manhours it would take to disassemble it and fix it have not been spent on it. More critical things came/come first.

From the pics he posted I'd say its 1.02 as well. They look to be right out of the 1.02 A10 quick fly mission...
