Pilotasso Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 You already can, but you have to let the ECM pods go ;) .

Pilotasso Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 yeah, we got that but the question is, will there be a difference ingame and if that will be player usable? .
Cobra360 Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 If there even is a difference, one thing is clear. There is no point in having the 120B. AFAIK IRL the 120C has slightly less range, larger no escape zone thanks to higher fly-out speed and better ECCM ability and smarter warhead.
Pilotasso Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 The aerodymanic differences between the B and C versions is negligeble and shouldnt affect the weapons range. The C has better seeker and software logic, and I realy would like to know if that will mean we will get a beteer AMRAAM or just dumb down the current to make the B out of it :S That if they are both player usable. BTW, my airforce has the clipped version of the AMRAAM sugesting the AIM-120C but the official word is that its the B. I would like to get to the bottom of this. .
Cobra360 Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 The motor on the C is optimised differently to have a higher speed but the side effect is shorter range because the same amount of fuel is being used quicker. I think the fins are interchangable with each other.
Pilotasso Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 Well it still doesnt mean much, higher speed may or may not compensate for the lesser burn time. .
D-Scythe Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 The motor on the C is optimised differently to have a higher speed but the side effect is shorter range because the same amount of fuel is being used quicker. I think the fins are interchangable with each other. Um, no. What gave you that idea? And what on earth is "optimised" if range is less?
Pilotasso Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 can you say if both weapons are player usable and the differences between them? .
Cobra360 Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 It is optimised to reach the target quicker with more energy to use when it gets there, giving the target less time to react and escape. Well that what I saw in info about the C4 on a website about a year ago that I can no longer find. The other C sub variants may be different. I know the C4 is an old model as the C6 is the current version with the C7 just around the corner.
ED Team Chizh Posted April 21, 2006 ED Team Posted April 21, 2006 Is WAFM still on Black Shark addon features list? We have finished only one WAFM missile a while. It’s Vikhr ATGM for Ka-50. Right now we are working about various guns and machineguns because it more important for helicopters. It not easy deal and we amass all efforts around helicopter environment, AI and AFM. After that we'll engage with AA and AG missile quite possible. And what will be the diffrence in-game between AIM-120B and AIM-120C ? AIM-120C will more resistant to the chaffs. P.S. Two pictures of new missiles in 1280x960 resolution. Единственный урок, который можно извлечь из истории, состоит в том, что люди не извлекают из истории никаких уроков. (С) Джордж Бернард Шоу
Cobra360 Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 Well at least there will be a gameplay difference for the 120C. I might buy BS just for this alone.

Glad to hear that, se we may still see some further developments on missiles in future 1.2 patches? If not all of them, at least the essencial ones. .

Dusty Rhodes Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 My understanding is the C has a bit shorter range but a bigger warhead and less chance of being spoofed. B has a longer range, smaller warhead, and is spoofed easier. Might be wrong, but that is the way I understand it. I know in Allied Force, the above is true from my experience as it takes 2 B's to down an SU-25 and 1 C. But I have been wrong in the pa............ GGTharos Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 That's just how it's modelled. IIRC some version of the C may have had a 'boost only' motor instead of boost-sustain which means higher peak-speed, but the range is reduced because you also begin to decelerate sooner (and drag is proportional, more or less, to velocity squared IIRC) ... so the missile has actually flown less distance when it reaches the same velocity as a different C model after motor burn-out. The warhead, AFAIK, has remained the same in weight, but the new warheads are adaptive, IIRC. That means the blast is directed at the target, thus concentrating the destructive force. Both the B and C have reprogrammable processors, so theoretically you can give a B the same software upgrades as a C, meaning countermeasures rejection, special flight paths, etc etc. The -newest- C models sport 50% more internal space for the rocket due to electronics miniaturization (but the new rocket motor has not been implemented yet) ... once the new motors are installed, the AMRAAM will have even more range, and it is considerably long-ranged as is (from what I've seen, which may or may not be accurate, people significantly overestimate missile ranges, and in general they also significantly underestimate the missile ranges of their favorite opponent) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
diveplane Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 does the b version and c come with a strobe light on it....hint hint https://www.youtube.com/user/diveplane11 DCS Audio Modding.
Pilotasso Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 this is interesting news, 2 versions of the AMRAAM...nice... I would like to see a faint smoke trail as the real thing too. Its not completely smokeless, but please dont let it look like falcons poney tail AMRAAM... .

This is good to hear. I applaude to ED that they concentrate all their efforts to one single area of air combat now and hope that this will be continued in future line of ED sims. Chizh, last time you told us about about advances in the helicopter AI you made in your project. Do you already have implemented new routines for the SAM/AAA AI you can tell us about ?
