CyDoN Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Hello guys I had the combined arms game which is great. I recently saw some videos of flight sims and mostly about flaming cliffs, A10 and black shark. It seems great, it really does. I like immersion and also I like the idea of these games. Now to get to the point. I think i will need some kind of contoler for that as the Deathadder 2013 won't be ideal. My thoughts are that I want to try, so any proposals of which contrels should i get without spending a fortune and also that wont be very low quality so I can make a try to play the game and see If I like it? Thx for your time guys. Greek ArmA Community Manager www.arma3.gr Skype: VampyricTyrant

Rogue Trooper Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 I think CH flight controllers are a good place to start and at a reasonable price. The Rudders are superb value for money. Roadrunner Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 friend of mine it testing flaming cliffs with this one: Thrustmaster Flight Hotas Stick X, ca. 40€ for start its ok i'd say, in the throttle is an rudderaxis thats working fine for a start, although i wouldnt suggest trying piston engine or helicopters with it. if you want to spend more money, then tell us where it starts to hurt your wallet ;) regards, RR [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "There's nothing to be gained by second guessing yourself. Boris Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Try and get a used X52 or X52Pro. It's got enough functionality to cover anything you have to map but you can get it cheaply enough. The normal X52 pretty much has all the functionality of the Pro, but the pro looks cooler and has better spring tension. You'll also wnt some kind of head tracking solution. If you already have a good webcam you can try setting up freetrack or noIR. ruprecht Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 To get the most from high fidelity sims you need stick, throttle, rudder control and head tracking. You can do all that on a budget or go high end on a Thrustmaster Warthog, Saitek Pro Combat pedals and a TrackIR 5. All depends on your wallet. If you get into it you can build a cheap cockpit with the Akers-Barnes design and start adding multimonitors with SoftTH and Helios. We're all eagerly keeping our eyes on Oculus as well, as that has the potential to take simming to a new level. After that... you're into enthusiast territory and beyond help :) DCS Wishlist: | Navy F-14 | Navy F/A-18 | AH-6 | Navy A-6 | Official Navy A-4 | Carrier Ops | Dynamic Campaign | Marine AH-1 | Streaming DCS sometimes:
King_Hrothgar Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Depends on your budget. For the $50 mark, I'd say a Thrustmaster T.16000 or Thrustmaster HOTAS and a webcam for head tracking. You are going to want your targeting camera/cursor on your single hat switch with this setup. Without head tracking you'll be stuck using a mouse or keyboard for looking. Not exactly a optimal. The next level up is the X-52. I've had an X-52 Pro (basically the same tbh) for around 8-9 years. It still works though I recently replaced it with an X-55. The X-52 has enough buttons and hats to get most of the important stuff on it and still have a hat for views. A hat is a poor alternative to head tracking, but it does work. A basic X-52 typically costs $120. Beyond that I'd recommend adding a TrackIR before anything else. That will give you the biggest improvement in experience. TrackIR 5 costs $150. Now into the breaking the bank territory, we can look at the higher end stuff. Replacing the X-52 with an X-55 is a good option and certainly the cheapest of these. The X-55 adds a lot of buttons over the X-52 and dual throttles. In terms of quality, it feels nicer than my old X-52 Pro. That said, ergonomics on it suffer some. Many of the buttons are a little hard to reach and although I've gotten used to it, I find myself doing a bit of finger gymnastics trying to reach everything. The X-55 costs $200. If you wish to add pedals, that will add an extra $100 for CH or $150+ for anything else. A full CH setup is another option. CH is beyond question in terms of quality and they certainly have enough buttons on their setup. However, their sticks all lack twist and so pedals are mandatory. They also lack the sliders and rotaries the X-52 and X-55 have, thus assigning zoom to an axis (amazingly useful imho) cannot be done easily. You will also find this limiting in planes with prop pitch, mixture, radiators and trim wheels. This setup will cost you about $370. The final option is a TM Warthog + pedals. Like CH, it lacks twist. Also like CH, it lacks sliders and rotaries except for one on the throttle base. The Warthog is known for having an extremely heavy centering spring, thus most don't seem to like it for choppers without buying a different spring for it. The TM WH costs $350 to $400 + the $100 or more for pedals. Obviously in all three of these latter options, you will want to have TIR5.

BitMaster Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I used a Logitech Freedom Cordless 2.4GHz stick for over a year until I got the Thrustmaster gear. Whatever you get now, it should have rudder control to make your life easier. Headtracking...yes, but get airborne first and don't overload yourself with new things and setup problems, one at a time so you can keep pace and keep the fun alive. 313_Nevo Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 (edited) as I assume from your signature CyDoN you are from Europe so there should be also this option Defender Cobra M5. good value for the price and with great looks. For the option with generic looks there is the mentioned Thrustmaster T.16000M. these two are great for the starters and beyond imho. what else needed for the beginning? keyboard and mouse but these you already have for sure :) Edited February 25, 2015 by 313_Nevo
