I use Tir5 now but did give others a go and found it was a bit of a fuss setting it all up in different games.

tried ED-Tracker which is a idea based on an arduino worked quite well but again was a faff to set up just right.

managed to get a 2nd hand Tir5 ans as I already had the vector headset made out of metal not the plastic one I was good to go straight out the box.

AMD A8-5600K @ 4GHz, Radeon 7970 6Gig, 16 Gig Ram, Win 10 , 250 gig SSD, 40" Screen + 22 inch below, Track Ir, TMWH, Saitek combat pedals & a loose nut behind the stick

leds are simple IR Led 1.5V you can easily find on ebay with the resistors you want (for 5V supply and 3 in series LEDs it's 22ohm). Then I grinded the head away to get them plain. The surface must not be crystal clear but quite opaque (but without scratches).

Mano, I assembled the device for a 5V USB power.

However: if I check with the cam, the LED's do not function.

With a multimeter I checked the connections, and when I measure BEFORE the first LED, and ground, I get 5V current. When I measure BEHIND the first LED and ground, I only get 1V.. I already replaced the LED, but no effect...

I use a 6ohm resistor. Ledcalc said to use 5. Connection is serial: positive to resistor to posLED1 etc.

What am I doing wrong...????

Yes, I have a phone. Checked, and they were dark. Checked it with the PS3 eye: dark.

I connected one led (the SFH48 something) with a 30ohm directly to an AA battery: dark.

Maybe Stupid question but essential for troubleshooting.

Are you sure you are connecting the positive And negative pins of the led correctly?

They are really confusing And is easy to mix anode with cathode.

Usually internet images are ok for reference but il you have the tech sheet of your leds it's better. Some led producers don't use the same + And - conventions of others (Just to make things simpler).

This is the only idea i have at the moment. If This is the case, your led is Now dark because it broke off.

Maybe add some image or info about your assembly.

I checked and checked and checked.. I use this: http://www.thediyworld.com/How-To-Properly-Use-LEDs.php

and when I check again, I see the LED's are connected to plus and minus in the correct way...

I used this: http://www.free-track.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=1856&page=2#12649

When I measure just before the last LED on the +, and connect the multimeter to the -. I measure about 0,8V. When I measure just before the first LED, and ground, it measures 5V.

Just after the first LED, and -: 1v....

Edit: If I check the remark on the Freetrack forum (see link above), they say: "edit 1: (If you use other type of leds, (not SFH485P) the shorter leg is almost negative ! check your datasheet)"

Could this mean the SFH485P has the + on the SHORT side and minus on LONG..???? (I don't have a factsheet of the LEDs..)

Edit: found this: http://www.led-eshop.de/PDF/5mm/SFH485P.pdf..... it says indeed: Flat side = cathode. Which is the other way around then normal LED's....

I'm going to try to fix this this afternoon, but... changes are big my led's are dead??

Hmmm. I use a piece of exposed film for daylight filtering, but the signal is very weak and only at a distance of about 25cm pointtracker is picking up the signal...

Weird thing is: if I try Freetracker, the one or two occasions that it works with the PS3Eye, it sees the points really good from a distance of about 50cm. Some kind of setting that can alter this, anyone?

So I just tested my newly built headtracker. Cam is taped onto the monitor because I ordered the mount from retarded vendor who can't deliver on time, led clip looks like something you might find in the trash, I need to figure out better filter than a floppy disk, but IT WORKS. Only spent like 250 hours tweaking the curves back and forth.

How could I fly with the goddamn pov hat.

That is all.

I finally got my stuff working too. Don't know if I have everything ok, didn't fiddle with the curves yet.

However, I think the facetracking of Opentrack is not worse compared to the IR tracker I made...

Anybody having some hints and tips for the curve settings..??

It's nice to hear it's working!

I'm not sure what you're comparing. OpenTrack does not have any facetracking feature (no IR emitter), unlike FaceTrackNoIR.

I tried FTNoIR and the (face)tracking has a horrible lag. Imho, it's unusable for the flight sims.

For the curves, each profile will depend on the user's setup/rig. Too many variables to share a profile, imo.

First, you should define the maximum view angle for each axis in a specific cockpit. And then, set up your curves depending on the sensitivity you want (e.g. smooth in the center, linear, short (real) head movements, etc.).

Here's an example with my curves for the Su-27 for DCS World:

Pitch:

pRaZdW2.jpg

-60° to +90°

Small deadzone for stability and comfort, smooth above the horizon (0-10°), for precise target/alignment tracking, then faster on the high angles for fast target acquisition/lock or situation awareness (checking above/dogfighting), soft edge near the max angle (it provides a useful feedback (less sensitivity near the max angle) and soften the end of the movement).

Roll:

vKYfe4j.jpg

50°+ left and right

Small deadzone for stability, smooth around the neutral position and very soft edges (very slowly reaching the extreme angles - not like brutally hitting the canopy)

Z (zoom in/out):

3ht89MW.jpg

-30° to +26°

Small deadzone for stability, soft backward move with soft edge, faster forward zoom to check the instruments/target/detail. I don't need to move a lot to reach the maximum zoom level but I don't use a high magnification like some in-cockpit binoculars you can see in some videos.

As you can see, it's a very personal setting, fitting the way you'll enjoy moving your view and head in the cockpit.

I'd suggest to try different configurations but keep in mind, each cockpit has its view angles limits (there's no point in looking right behind you in a helicopter cockpit) - so setup your curves within those limits.

Have fun tweaking around ;)

First of all: TNX!! for your settings!! I'm going to compare them to mine.

Then: I doubt that you have the latest version of OpenTrack. OT certainly does have facetracking:

opentrack.jpg

OpenTrack is capable of, amongst others:

- facetracking

- IR tracking

- upd/FreePie (smartphone) tracking

I tested all of them. So far the smartphone tracking is the smoothest of them all.

Hey,

Thanks for the update.

My mistake then ;) I didn't notice the face tracking has been added to OT. I have the 2.2 installed but I didn't check the supported trackers in the last months. Good to know things are improving!

EdTracker (magnetometer version) for me with Opentrack, really good and stable.

TrackIR 4, with TI5 software and pro-clip. And when I feel like it, I use the Oculus Rift which is by far the best experience.

Hey,

just out of curiousity im asking me what the DCS Community is using most?

Im using TrackIR 5

Excuse if this kind of poll is already somewhere but I didnt found one.

Regards

Yeah, me, too. I have the camera setup on top of my monitor and the 3-LED receiver that mounts to my headphones' headset. But I get a bit disoriented and sometimes nauseous and headaches using it; remnants from a cerebral brain hemorrhage 14 years ago, still. I do pretty good considering what most survivors suffer.

So, I am usually not using it.

I use the view keys in my setup for look-around and zoom using my POV HAT 8-way keys.

But I do have a Ka-50 and FC3 controller profile where I have Track IR5 setup where I can pause it and use the view controls to look at instruments and back on to look out the cockpit for bogies---that is 104th Crunch's creation.

I keep telling myself I will spend more time getting used to using it, but I rarely ever do.

If you break it, here is how I fixed mine:
