pauldy Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 with the removal of Radar Altimeter since the real aircraft doesn't have them anyway.. knowing when to flare is a bit more challenging.. So far I've gotten used to it..using the Runway threshold and oftentimes.. the "gut feeling" picture of the limited Peripheral vision This works quite well during daylight hours.. At night, I find it even more challenging, especially on moonless nights.. Although I use ILS on night approaches.. but when it comes to flaring, it's not really helpful.. I actually tend to ignore it when I'm only a few meters from the Runway's end and focus on the FPM instead.. So far the only reference I can use are the runway lights. The "gut feel" picture is gone, since everything outside is dark.. I was wondering how you can land the F-15 at night? especially when flaring.. Although I can still land the F-15 at night without crash landing it, often times my flare gets inconsistent, sometimes I find myself flaring too high or too low.. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Valium Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 It's true, just practice. I think the easiest way to learn how to land properly is flying on Su-27 because its HUD seems to be cleaner. The most difficult thing is landing on carrier at night. Click here to see more pictures of Polish Air Force! Check also my album.
HiJack Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Use one of the airports where ILS is working and fly the glideslope in different degrading light conditions. Add some light fog to make harder. Mineralnye Vody works good with ILS
104th_Maverick Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Here is a video I put up a while ago to help someone else who was struggling. Basically its all practice as mentioned above. Cali Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Nice video Mave. We had/have a few real life pilots in our squad and years ago one of them thought us how to land the 15 in a blackout/fog out condition. That was the hardest thing I have ever done in flying this game. My back was tense and hands were sweaty. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED

GGTharos Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Nice job. Now do it right and maintain stable 21AoA to the flare ;) It is unfortunate that the ILS takes you to the middle of the runway for most airfields instead of the threshold. ;2363502']Here is a video I put up a while ago to help someone else who was struggling. pauldy Posted April 3, 2015 Author Posted April 3, 2015 Sorry for not visiting this thread.. It's a long holiday in our country after all. ^^; So the ILS isn't calibrated to the proper glideslope? is that one of those bugs that haven't yet been resolved? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
GGTharos Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 The glideslope is correct in angle, but it is 'emitted' from the wrong point. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
pauldy Posted April 3, 2015 Author Posted April 3, 2015 So I've made adjustments.. When using the ILS, I tend to sort of "duck below" the glideslope bar.. Here's a typical single mission I do.. One thing.. I'll admit that I'm using labels.. well yeah. I'm highly unlikely to play and fight online anyway and more of a Casual player. Just time accel and skip the messy BVR Fight. Pleas critique my landing ^^ I know touched down slightly on the right wheel since my load became asymmetrical after launching a pair of Slammers and a Sidewinder ^^ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
104th_Maverick Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Nice job. Now do it right and maintain stable 21AoA to the flare ;) Was going to give you some abuse for this..... but you're right, it wasn't the best at all... ha  In my defence it was something quick I knocked up to help someone having ILS issues :) Good hussle in that merge btw, shame that flanker got me first ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 104th Phoenix Wing Commander / Total Poser / Elitist / Hero / Chad www.104thPhoenix.com www.facebook.com/104thPhoenix My YouTube Channel
GGTharos Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 (edited) You stuck to the needless very nicely though - very nice for that part :-) As for the merge, I did very poorly but from what I recall, and not having looked at the tacview, I had about half to one turn to go offensive after correcting the mess I made. But again, IIRC and based on limited info. Probably better discussed in private.
