Mtnbiker1998 Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Hey Everyone, My Birthday is coming up in a few weeks and after thinking about it for awhile I'm still torn on whether I want to get a warthog throttle or a trackir (Can't afford both). I'm currently using a T-flight hotas X for most games with Ch rudder pedals, and fighterstick for dcs. I use the T-flight X throttle when i use the fighterstick, so having an actual throttle would be really nice, Dual throttles would be really useful, plus i'd have no shortage of buttons and switches. On the other hand, The Trackir would free up my POV hatswitch, as well as having more uses in arma or even Kerbal Space program. I haven't been able to decide, and I know based on other posts that you guys speak highly of both things, so where should I start? Thanks! -Mtn98 Come fly with me, lets fly, lets fly away! -Sinatra [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] My Specs: Lenovo Y50 with GTX 860m (2GB), i7 4700HQ 2.4GHz, 8GB Ram. cichlidfan Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 TIR 5 without question. If you were thinking about the stick instead of the throttle, it would be a slightly more difficult choice. jcbak Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 I have both the Warthog and TIR5. If I had to pick one it would definitely be the TIR5. I love the WH.....but the TIR5 is a must. DracoLlasa Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 TrackIR was one of my first purchases when i started with DCS... at the time i was using an old MS Sidewinder stick, with a slider for the throttle control. So i would def go with TrackIR first. Than said, the cost of the TrackIR isn't nearly as much as a TM Warthog, so start with TrackIR save for another month or so and you should be ok for the Warthog. CaptJackG Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Get the TrackIR first then start a swear jar. In no time you'll have enough for the whole Warthog HOTAS.
98abaile Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 It's not even a decision, the answer is TrackIR. You can get by with pretty much any joystick, even a Logitech extreme 3D pro (if I've worked this out correctly, by making the 6 base buttons as shift keys and using combinations of them, you can map a total of 590 functions to the stick), but TIR adds so much to the actual experience that you'll wonder how you ever did without it.
FlyingHighAU Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 trackIR 100% Also dual throttles aren't as useful as the marketing guys would want you to believe :)

Mtnbiker1998 Posted May 7, 2015 Author Posted May 7, 2015 Alright, you guys made that decision seem a lot easier than I was making it  trackIR 100% Also dual throttles aren't as useful as the marketing guys would want you to believe :) I was thinking not so much dual Throttles per se, but more so throttle + prop pitch or something along those lines. Still, you guys have me pretty convinced on trackir now! Come fly with me, lets fly, lets fly away! -Sinatra [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] My Specs: Lenovo Y50 with GTX 860m (2GB), i7 4700HQ 2.4GHz, 8GB Ram. NeoMorph WTH Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 I've got the Warthog HOTAS and not got the TIR5... and I feel like I'm doing a juggling act going between the HOTAS and using the mouse to look around the cockpit. DEFINITELY ordering the TIR next payday.
aeliusg Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 TrackIR is nice, but depending on where you're getting the Warthog throttle from, I might go with that instead if I were you, especially if it's for a good price since they don't sell these retail. Who knows when you'll be able to get your hands on one next. You can always pick up a TIR5 on Amazon when you have some extra cash.
