DCS: World Virtual Gunsmoke Competition - July 2015

Surprised the competition excluded Mi-8 bombing. THIS really shows the skill of a pilot. No HUD, no CCIP, no fancy computer, nothing. Just a manual sight, a couple of time tables in a draft manual and a stopwatch. And it is fully cheater proof as any pass below 100 ft will result in total annihilation of the aircraft. :D:joystick::pilotfly:

+1 for this! :pilotfly:

Alright, all the submissions are in and I am working on scoring the last of them. I will have the results posted no later than Monday.

Ok, all entries are scored. I am going to verify everything one more time in the morning when I am fresh and have it all put together, hopefully by tomorrow evening.

In the meantime, here are some graphics to look at.

This one shows impact points in relation to the target with an arrow depicting wind direction at low altitude. It is pretty clear that the folks who entered the LASTE wind profile fared better but it is hard to pin down by exactly how much. The folks who took take the time to calculate and enter it are, I would imagine, more experienced and more practiced than those who didn't so that surely skewed the results a little. Either way, there was a definite advantage.

This one shows the impact point in relation to the aircraft heading at release. I have almost convinced myself that this reflects a bias to the left due to two of the three releases coming off the left wing. The problem is that I was positive before that the sim compensated for that. It might just be a coincidence based on all the different headings folks flew in relation to the wind at release. The spreadsheet with the raw data will be available tomorrow if anybody with more brain power wants to have a look. (That is assuming anybody else in the world actually cares. :))

This is the same as above except for the Su-25T. It is really quite unremarkable when compared to the A-10 results. :) Everybody did a really great job.

I thought it was a minimum pull up altitude, not a flipping hard deck! Should of read that a bit closer.

After 4 hours I'll take 1st in the "under 4000ft you would of died catagory" :joystick:

I watched my replay again and was releasing my payload before 4000agl and starting my pullout but shortly after passed through the limit.

I definitely violated the hard deck.

But how could I not submit a 3 Shack result!

Hats off to all who did it right because it's very challenging to be accurate from that high up.

Also, That stuka style dive is pro level!

Congratulations everyone ~ Thanks for hosting Bunyap...that was fun.

I showed the wife thinking she'd be impressed, but she said, "If you're not first you're last..."

...rough. :)

Sooo, I noticed I went way below 4k, however my hud AGL said I've pulled out before that.

How do I set my hud to display current AGL instead of MSL in the A-10C (I suspect I was reading MSL instead of AGL)?

Nevertheless, I am glad I chose submitting my try.

Made me recognize the areas I still have to improve myself. (LASTE correction for example)

There is a Radar altimeter below 5000ft and your TGP shows AGL as well. Plus, you can see the Terrain elevation on your CDU Page if the Waypoint isn't in the air (markpoint on the ground, Target Waypoint on the ground). So if you know terrain elevation you can quickly get an estimate on how high you are flying over the ground.

No, the one you turn on during startup - the switch next to the EAC behind the throttles. Below 5000ft AGL the radar altimeter will show your altitude (like this: 3250R), above 5000ft AGL it will read XXXXR. It's displayed on the right side of the HUD above the waypoint information.

Additionally you can turn on a radar tape that will be displayed below 1500ft AGL
