The thing is, helicopters are different from planes. An airplane by it's nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual events or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly. A helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces in opposition to each other, and if there is any disturbance in this delicate balance the helicopter stops flying; immediately and disastrously.

the main issue that I would like to solve is that cloud layer base start from msl instead of the airport altitude, that I could gather only if I force the planner to use one of the sim airport. This has a big impact on Nevada airports, that are much more "above sea level" than Caucasus and Normandy.

Thanks a lot for getting this to work again. It's a great mod and I missed it. Also happy to hear that it works with 2.1 :)
OK I drop this mod into my jsgme for 2.1 and 1.56, could someone tell me what should I be looking for in the ME for Normandy and how to make this work. I see the added entries at the bottom for the weather but when I click it ask if I want to download the data and I click yes but nothing happens. Help TC

Check manual in the mod folder, inside AMVI\Docs

If it still does not work for normandy, remember that it's for 1.5.6 stable.

It works for Normandy but nothing on England so far. I think that's because ED just didn't do anything with England like what was done for Normandy. Thanks Again TC

Negative, DAWS Weather is completely unrelated from ED code on retrieving metar code. It won't work if the metar code is not available or not public.

as Chromium said it independent of DCS, you only enter the ICAO code into the DAWS tab under weather in the ME,

as the fields on Normandy are WWII temporary airports and most are no longer active you have to select the closest real world airport if you're looking to get METAR data.

for the UK airports try any of the 3 main south coast airports - EGHI (Southhampton) have tested DCS generates local weather form this ICAO using current METAR, EGHH (Bournemouth)not tested, EGKA (Brighton) not tested,or EGHR (Chichester/Goodwood Airport) may work not tested yet, all depends if those airports have active metar reporting,

Also make sure the ICAO are entered in CAPS it DAWS won't recognize them otherwise

you can check if DAWS has picked up the correct data by checking here the actual METAR data http://en.allmetsat.com/metar-taf/united-kingdom-ireland.php?icao=EGHI or on any of the other METAR Sites

would be nice if ED included it as a standard feature, and if you could set the autoupdate timer like in xplane or fsx

Posted

Autoupdate it's impossible for static weather cause it dipends on a fixed table inside the mission file

Cheers Chromium, I'm so pleased to see this works again with 2.1, its been very unpleasant flying without your mod as of late.

Honestly don't know why this feature is not a part of DCS off the shelf. The devs have admitted DCS' weather system is indeed antiquated and in need of work... this one's a freebee they should have incorporated a long time ago.

Flying DCS in no wind or lining your weather up to suit your runway heading etc is no simulation at all!

Cause this mod rely on much freeware code that could not be used for market. Also and much more important it cannot retrieve data for airports that do not publish it, such as military ones (try vaziani for example).

It's not reliable enough even for me.
