Byeohazard Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 (edited) Been looking at this bird for a while and was wondering how far along it is. Is it pretty refined with some work left to do or is it still fairly rough around the edges. Tough question to answer without being too specific but I am interested in what our community thinks. Hopefuly leads me to an answer that's in the ballpark. The Huey is calling my name also...just trying to decide. Ended up with the Huey before the sale ended. Know a few folks who fly it and got some good feed back. Still interested in this one though. Will keep my eyes peeled to see if folks have any input. Edited August 3, 2015 by Byeohazard

Byeohazard Posted August 3, 2015 Author Posted August 3, 2015 IMO, as it is right now, it is already more than worth the use, even if still WIP, specially regarding the simulation of control stiffening with dynamic pressure. The cockpit functionality is simply great, and overall it is close to what we think the real thing might have been ... Certainly a MUST HAVE in the DCS fleet! Thanks for the feedback jcomm! Appreciate your input! I think this one is next on my list! Hopefully see a few more people with their thoughts as well.
Zimmerdylan Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 In my opinion...it's most probably just about ready to go out of beta. The thing handles much better than in it's early release. All of the nagging details have been addressed, and it's just fun to fly. Worth the investment.
Sporg Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I can recommend it. At first of course it was tough to handle, taxiing, take off, landings. But quite fast it still became my favorite, because it seemed more maneuverable than the two other WW 2 war birds, the P-51 and the Dora. And then it has this lovely 30 mm cannon. ;) The P-51 and the Dora both feels like much heavier planes compared. Not that there is anything wrong with them, just that the 109 just feels like a joy to fly. :) System specs: Gigabyte Aorus Master, i7 9700K@std, GTX 1080TI OC, 32 GB 3000 MHz RAM, NVMe M.2 SSD, Oculus Quest VR (2x1600x1440) Warthog HOTAS w/150mm extension, Slaw pedals, Gametrix Jetseat, TrackIR for monitor use
Solty Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Bf109K4 needs few refinements. It has way too high rate of climb and with it level acceleration and there are no rudder forces. So the plane performs better than it will when ED patches those two issues. I think both were confirmed for the next patch (probably 1.5). Byeohazard Posted August 3, 2015 Author Posted August 3, 2015 Good to hear everyone's feedback! I am continuing to check back and read them every so often. It is looking like I will pick this one up next sale.
gavagai Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 If you don't own the P-51 or 190 yet I would buy those first. By comparison, the 109 is a bear to fly and you might end up with a sore wrist. Hehe, well yes and no: My progression was chronological, first P-51, then Dora then 109K4. P-51 was a bit difficult at start, but I managed to learn in reasonable time. (Not so much in engine management though.) Dora was a plain PIA and I crashed again and again and again ad nauseam.. Until I finally, slowly, got a little bit better at handling it. But still, take offs and especially landings are hazardous and difficult. In comparison, the Bf 109 was difficult at first, especially due to the narrow undercarriage, but after a relatively short while I have learned to handle it better than the two others. I actually feel that it is easier to fly than the two others now, for easier engine management and higher maneuverability than the P-51, and for easier take offs and especially landings than the Dora. The Dora and P-51 are easier to trim (or can be trimmed more) but anyway, as soon as you change a throttle or RPM setting you need to readjust again. When flown as recommended in the video with Erich Brunotte, 1.2 ATA in general and sideslips at landing, I fell the 109 is not so difficult a plane to fly. TheSkipjack95 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 AFAIK the german planes need the addition of some sotre types ( R4M rockets, underwing pods ), and as it's been mentioned, rudder stiffness at high speeds. Erich's video is a great watch, and it's nice to see that some of his comments have been taken into account ( you couln't hold the 190 on full power on the brakes before, the tail lifted ). These planes are amazing fun to fly, and there constantly remains some room to improve your flying, even if you think you've mastered it.

I can't wait to see some store types....the P51 is quite fun to practice with the bombs and rockets. I think the take off and landing challenges are a big part of the appeal to these aircraft!
Silver_Dragon Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 some rockets (R4M and WGr21) has present into Fw-190 module some time ago (august 2014) , but not implemented. Byeohazard Posted September 6, 2015 Author Posted September 6, 2015 (edited) Picked it up yesterday! I like! Managed to get her up in the air on second try but I think I was lucky! Gonna go play with it some more! Just realized I had the takeoff assist to 100%. Turned that off and still managed (somehow) to get airborne! Only thing I could ask for is a comprehensive tutorial (although from watching auto start sequence I learned a bit). The campaign, so far....seems like unassisted exercises in the aircrafts operation. I love how nimble it feels. MY other ww2 aircraft is the Mustang and I love the contrast between them...very different animals! Edited September 6, 2015 by Byeohazard

Skjold Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 So are the rockets and gunpods planned for the 109? It actually has keybinding relating to both so im curious.
