ChuckBytes Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 I'm totally new to DCS ... after purchasing a Warthog throttle and joystick, I'm looking for an application to put it to good use. I figured DCS is the right place to start. I downloaded the DCS World from Steam but it just crashes each time i try to start it. So i came here to download and hopefully it will work. To any fellow Warthoggers. If there are any suggestions or comments about using, calibrating or best game to use it with, i would very much appreciate your input. I have a high end system so there's no restrictions to type of game or graphics. i'm looking for the most realistic and responsive app which will accommodate the HW joystick and throttle combo. Look forward to chatting more on this site. -Chuck "Computer, is there a replacement barillium sphere on board"

You would be missing out hugely owning that stick and not flying the A-10C. You will also be pleased to find the stick will automatically be bound to the corresponding controls in the A-10C, so I recommend you get started by flying to tutorials and learning the nomenclature of your sticks controls so you will understand the instructor when he says things like "hit the China hat long button" I use the DCS standalone from the website, and install modules inside the sim. I do not use steam and I wouldn't recommend it based on what I have heard. Welcome to DCS, you are coming in at a exciting time and you have chosen excellent hardware.
=Mac= Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 The Warthog throttle and joystick should be set up (mostly) as the real A-10 is. I use the grey incr/decr paddle (on the right of the throttle) as a manual zoom because I don't like TrackIr's zoom. Everything else is just as the book calls for. If I'm not mistaken, DCS's A-10C has defaults to that effect. As for the sensitivity curves, you're just going to have to play with them until you are comfortable. I started out with no curves at all. Then I added little by little as I flew missions later. Not to get a war started, but I never touch anything from Steam. I buy straight from ED. Make sure you have a clean install of both your OS (Windows) and DCS World. Fly single player first to get your bearings. Then fly on some conservative online MP servers. Be prepared to die often at first. Watch your mp tracks afterwards. Keep in mind, at all times, that DCS aircraft are study simulations. Everything here is extremely relalistic. The A-10, especially. Welcome to the Sim world that certainly ain't the arcade flyin' you used to do! The Hornet is best at killing things on the ground. Now, if we could just get a GAU-8 in the nose next to the AN/APG-65, a titanium tub around the pilot, and a couple of J-58 engines in the tail...
Wrecking Crew Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 I so totally agree with the posters about getting the A-10C module -- it and the Thrustmaster Warthog were made for each other. Here's an old post of mine at SimHQ about setting up the axis curves -- I still use these for the Hog. Pass The Grey Poupon Also, there are some panels in the A-10C Flight Manual, Pages 88-92, that give the switch functions. I copied the info into Excel and printed out the panels for TMS, DMS and China Hat and have had those in front of me for a few years now. I do use my Warthog for the F-15C, Huey and Hawk. My stick's Paddle Switch is my modifier and with that I added additional functions for views, zoom, gear, NVGs and other stuff. WC Visit the Hollo Pointe DCS World server -- an open server with a variety of COOP & H2H missions including Combined Arms. All released missions are available for free download, modification and public hosting, from my Wrecking Crew Projects site.
Abburo Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 (edited) To put it simple : you're in the right place here. There is no other better application for Warthog then DCS. Good luck and enjoy your newest toys! PS: you have to look for pedals too. MFG could be one ofthe best pair for your setup. FlyingHighAU Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 As others have said - DCS : A-10C is made for the TM Warthog HOTAS, well actually the other way around. Perhaps they are made for each other :) I found these guides very useful http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=324154615 http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=213629603

Corbett1403 Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 I'm also just learning chuck started yesterday flying after putting everything together got my track ir perfect now started training. Working out the controls and switches will take time. I'm taking a minimum of two hours a day to learn that's the minimum time but hey give me a shout we can relay information and help if needed.
ratherbegliding Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Greetings and welcome to DCS!! I have been playing on and off for a few years now but have only had my TM Warthog for a week. First thing to do is go onto the TM website and install 1. the drivers; and 2. the TARGET software before plugging in your HOTAS. +1 about using the standalone instead of Steam (sorry if anyone feels differently). This forum is full of useful information so make use of the search function - I can spend hours just browsing! If you find the learning curve too steep with the A-10C I can definitely recommend the Hawk if you fancy something a bit easier. Welcome aboard! :D RBG ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Intel i5 / 16gb RAM / Nvidia GeForce 1080Ti / Viewsonic 28" monitor / TM Warthog / TM Elite rudder pedals / TrackIR5 First flight sim: Psion 'Flight Simulator' (ZX Spectrum 48k)
Corbett1403 Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 My TM Warthog work straight away most of the button were already mapped out. Just need to change button on stick from view to trim.
