Anyone have any thoughts on a setup like that? Dual curved monitors or is it better to try and go the regular flat panel three setup?

Also if I try for either way dual or three panel, will my system handle it? Or is it going to be too much for one graphics card?

Those things are so sexy.

Prices should be lower now they came out about June of this yr.

I want to see the set up when you get it up and running.

This one is crazy but expensive dual curved in surround set up.

What are peoples opinions on the ultra wide montors for DCS and gaming in general?

I'm considering a monitor upgrade myself, but I think I'll see what the reaction is when Oculus Rift is released. I imagine that no matter what you get in the monitor department, at some point it seems too small.

Currently, IMHO, the Ultrawide monitors are too small. Until someone makes one that has at least 15 inches of display height, I feel like I am looking through a narrow slot.

Two screens of any kind is a bad plan. You would probably find that the bezels in the middle of your field of view to be very distracting.

I've almost bought the Asus Rog Swift a few times lately, but it seems like a real good time for monitors lately so I'm waiting to see what comes out over the next few months. I have a 144HZ Asus screen now and wouldn't want to go any lower again, but I am wanting to upgrade from 1080p.

yeah my bad didn't mean to type dual even though I did twice. Was more or less asking one curved was better than three regular, or if a ultra wide was better etc.

I am building a new rig and the only thing I need to figure out is the monitor situation. Having only one graphics card makes me lean towards one monitor, but even then don't know which route to go. Curved, ultra wide, or something else.

I bought a 55 inch 4k curved screen with latest HDMI capabilities purely for DCS and running it from a single GTX980ti. This is only my opinion though, I am building a full A10c cockpit and I don't get the same effect looking into the 1 big curved screen that I used to get looking into the 3 X 27 inch screens, they were like middle, left and right and softth stopped any side refraction. With 1.5 going dx11, I think its going to make softth null. People might tell you everything is hunky dorey with their rigs, I have found it a problem and constantly have to try a work around, so I'm not pissing on your parade, at the moment I can't wait for 1.5 to come out so I can put some stability in.

Yeah LC34 for the timebeing, I have put it back in the livingroom. Now if I could afford 3 X 55inch curved screens that would be something. Maybe in the future, but I'm caught between a rock and a hard place for the time being. Without going into it in great detail, Softth is a dx9 dll which allows you to set up multiple monitors with ease and enables bezel correction for mis-matched monitors. Really handy bit of kit unfortunately its DX9 so we don't know what the future holds.

An explanation of side refraction might be due also.

financially and better option will be curved 55" and above 4K TV. Point of 4K is that you can seat very close to the screen without noticing pixels like you will with such screen size in 1080p. There is already 65" curved 4K TV similar price as 2 34" curved monitors and there is one huge problem with two monitors, they owerlaping right in the middle.

Lot of people switching from 3 monitors to huge 4K TV.

AtaliaA1 you are correct m8, refraction was the wrong word to use, I should have said distortion.

@wormeaten I have a 4k curved screen 55 inch television, but it doesn't suit my build at the moment. I'll chop and change over the next few months I'm quite sure. The 3 X 27 = 81 inch wide, looking down, I have a 27 for helios which covers the the front gauges, and Trackir5 for the side panels until I have finished building them. Remember I said "it is one opinion, only mine", a 55 inch TV is a problem for me right now to build it in.

@Weeb good point. Actually I think we got different view on cockpit build. I am more fun of heaving everything on screen not to build everything fiscally.

Fiscal cockpit is limited on just one plane virtual is fit to plane you using.

You should maybe try alternative for using Leapmotion or Voice Attack for switches inside virtual cockpit. It is different concept where you are just focused to build chair and good joystick, pedals and throttle stand so your TV now have space as it need because it is part of your front panel cockpit.

There is one other alternative to add second, if possible touch screen monitor for your cockpit panel. If you place it and cover part of your 4K TV just inch or two in front this could work as well.

If you are in to build full size cockpit with instruments then you should go in 3 screens but not two ultra wide curved. Maybe even think about projectors too. All depend on what you want to achive and space or budget you got.

Ok thanks for the clarification gentlemen. I'm still at a loss over which monitor I should buy. If I should buy multiple, if my GTX 970 can handle it or should I wait to buy another card first and then go 3 monitors, or if I should stick with one solid monitor or use my tv. Me and my simple meaningless little problems lol

What do you guys think about the display lag of the modern 4K TVs for gaming use? At least according to displaylag.com the new Samsung curved UHD TVs at sizes 55 and 65 inches have quite good figures (around 20ms). My gut feeling is that it doesn't really matter much for flight simming but is that good enough for other games (mainly racing sims and occassional FPS).

I dont really have any delays that i have seen so far on mine.

You do, but, unless you're doing competitive gaming at a level where 15ms and 1ms make all the difference, it will be mostly imperceptible (especially if you have never 'experienced' it and realized that it was there.) I wouldn't worry about it in DCS too much unless it's those split seconds in the dogfights where you double trigger before the other guy does in a head on.

If you plan on doing competitive level MOBA, FPS, etc, then yes, you will be at a disadvantage compared to someone sitting on an MLG tweaked 1ms GTG that gets his click off 19ms before you do, lol.

I would say if you want a big 'ol 4k TV and wanna kick back and game in front of it -- do it. Enjoy it!

Thanks for confiming my thoughts. I won't be doing anything really competitive. Low midpack iRacing is probably the most competitive I do and it really doesn't matter how well I do there as it is just for fun as everything else.

To me it seems that those Samsung screens give out the 20ms display lags with game mode on which drops the chroma to 4:2:2 from 4:4:4. This whole chroma thing is something I really don't understand very well. Does it matter or will I notice it if I am sitting a meter away from the screen?

Well, hopefully I'll have enough money at the end of the year to do the upgrade. Got to upgrade the whole computer before I can go to 4K.

Do look up some tests on any TV's you wanna buy though, some have input lags which are very noticeble even on non competitive levels of game play.

Better option might be a big 4K monitor, sadly enough there is only one around that i know off.

Then again, it's pretty good and certainly good enough for DCS;

Phillips BDM4065UC, love it.

I'd prefer to go for a proper monitor but then again I'd also like to go bigger than 40 inch. The Phillips is also quite a bit cheaper so I'll definitely need to consider that option as well. Thanks for the help.

At the moment I'm building up my knowledge on the subject so I can make an informed decision when the time is right.
