Anatoli-Kagari9 Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 (edited) More than 2 weeks testing 1.5 beta and I am convinced, for various reasons, DCS World is the way to go when smoothness, great graphics, and excellent flight dynamics and detailed / complex systems modelling are the way to go, not covering a single Era of the History of Flight - a full Spectrum platform, although many epochs aren't yet fully or partially represented. I use it mainly for the 2 helicopter models I own ( nothing compares to it in either FSX or X-Plane ), and also for the ww2 warbirds, and have the f86 and the Mig21 too, but they really not my preferred types... I continue to dream of the possibility of one day ED exploring the development of civil aircraft too, including for rescue missions, aerobatics, or simple leisure flight, including gliders if an enhanced weather model can be expected, but for the time being I am more than satisfied with what I have. Really looking fwd for EDGE final! DCS is not my only combat flightsim ( I use yet another one ), but both are used primarily not because of being combat flight simulators but rather EXCELLENT flight simulators. I started with LOMAC and then Flaming Cliffs in 2005 exactly for the same reason - I was not satisfied with the versions of MSFS and X-Plane then available... So, KUDOS! to the ED Team! Mike77 Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 jcomm- I had seen other posts of yours here on the ED forums and wondered if you were the same jcomm from the Xplane forums :) I just recently got into DCS World with 1.5 Open Beta. It's the only other flight sim I've tried besides X-Plane. I agreed with your comments, and I'm just using the free SU-25T! I am *really* impressed. As soon as possible, I'll be getting the A-10C and more to follow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. GaryIKILLYOU Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 The ONLY thing I can think of that would made it better would be a dynamic campaign. After having it in the simulator that shall not be named it's REALLY hard to not want it. But otherwise I agree with your statement entirely. DCS is the pinnacle of combat flight simulators. GG ED. Hey Mike, great to see you around here too :-) If possible, make sure you don't miss the rotary wings too. I have the uh-1h and the mi-8, and although helicopters are probably some of the best represented aircraft types in X-Plane, DCS goes much further in the detail and quality of both the flight and systems modelling also in this area, and, of course, props too - whole of them, from the p51d to the Bf109k4 ( the latest released ). scotchegg Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 As another recent convert from the normal civvie sims, most recently X-Plane, it's nice to see a few familiar names here like Jcomm. The upgrade to 1.5 was the tipping point for me as it brought the visual environment closer to what I would like to see, and I'm spending more and more time in DCS World now. One weekend with the free map and planes and I'd sunk $170 into add ons (much of that being pre-orders). Like Jcomm I'd welcome more integration of civilian planes but also recognise the established community might balk at any dilution of the military focus. Anyway, very interested to see what the future holds for this sim.

Erdem Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I really hope ED keeps the standards they set with the A-10C and Ka-50 modules in the future. There are lots of third party developers right now and I imagine keeping the same fidelity will be difficult with them.
okieordie78 Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Civilian planes? Take all the ordnance off and voila! Civilian plane or "de-militarized". Honestly though, if true civilian planes were offered, I would hope that they wouldn't cost as much as full combat modules. I can see the true aerobatics teams enjoying that. Me personally not so much, I like the opportunity to blow stuff up. But aerobatics from time to time are fun for me.
The_Pharoah Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 I would love to see enhanced soldier movement, battles, combat, etc in DCS. My 'dream' would be to have a map which is a constant battlefield, say Iraq 2003 or Vietnam (my pref) and you'd be able to spawn in online, choose an a/c and/or airbase and be present with a myriad of mission types eg. - CAS (A10s, etc) - 'troops in distress' for A10s (so you have to interact with JTACs to save them, kinda what the A10s did in Afghanistan) - troop or cargo transport (helicopters) - armed recon, etc At the moment, whilst the environment/aircraft look great, the 'world' itself is just dead. Russian pilots flying missions against ISIS in Syria right now would probably fly to a city for a specific target but witness other battles going on (or even stumble upon ISIS tanks). Have this as an ongoing MP battle and suddenly everyone has a purpose. Whilst I love DCS, I'm not getting much of the CS part of it (yes I know there are scripted battles set up but I'm talking something bigger). QuiGon Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 I agree, DCS is indeed the best flight sim out there. The only thing it realy misses is a dynamic campaign, but there are some nice devlopments by the community in this regard, like Blue Flag and Guardians of the Caucasus. I hope Civil Aviation will not become a part of this simulation unless it fits in to military aviation. This thing is called Digital Combat Simulator for a reason. i would rather like them to expand the ground and naval aspects. A fully simulated tank or ship module would be awesome. We already have a bunch of trainer aircraft for aerobatic flying. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
