Hi Guys,

How to tell if the ACS is on or off? Is there a light on the right/left console somewhere?

I hit the ACS button while on the ground when taking off (by accident) and could not tell if it was on or not the rest of the flight. I could pull high super high AOA no matter how many times I hit my ACS button and just could not tell if it was on or off based on the flight characteristics

Guess I should move that key to a two way toggle (TM Warthog - currently set to my autopilot engage button).

Thanks and good day,

Are you talking about the "S" key (Direct Control)? If so, look on the left panel--you'll have to be throttled back otherwise the throttle will hide it. The switch is under a safety cover. When you press the "S" key to take direct control, the safety cover lifts and the toggle switch moves forward. When you press the key a 2nd time, the switch toggles back and the cover is replaced.

There is a switch in front and under the throttle that shows the status of the ACS. When the cover is open and the switch is in the upper position then the ACS is disconnected. When the cover is closed the ACS is on.

PS: The throttle has to be idle otherwise you won't see the switch since it's hidden below the grip.

You will not be in doubt if you take off with acs off. :)

It's fun for doing stunts and such but I guess the switch is mostly there for emergency situations.

Flying a relaxed stability A/C without a computer is not for humans!

When did this become a toggle instead of a "press and hold" function? I have the command bound to the slider switch on my X55 throttle, I like having a physical toggle for it instead of a software toggle...

Yup, exactly. I was doing some vertical and horizontal Cobra manuvers, and basic FM while waiting for my wing and a 2nd flight of SU33s to take off so we could do formation and NOE work. Pressed once, very unstable...press again, still unstable but the heavy upward pitch clued me in that the ACS was on.

Anyhow, seemed hard to tell by change in flight characteristics if the ACS was on or off unless I tired a Cobra or other high AoA maneuvers...otherwise I could not tell if it was on or not...surprisingly. The AC is very touchy either way.

Thanks again guys,

Increase your speed and you'll know your ACS is off ;)
