Hi Guys,

I am thinking about getting a new monitor or big tv for playing dcs.

which one is better?

I like big 60" 4k tv for the immersion,

but some people says that pc monitor is still the better choice.

For cpu and gpu, I plan to get i7-6700K and gtx980ti.

Please let me know your opinion.

Thanks.

I would say TV for immersion of course, but also I think that 4k has so many pixels it's a little bit wasted on a screen smaller than 40".

You might also need two graphics cards to keep your frame rate over 60fps as much as possible at 4k.

Also I'm totally jealous :)

Keep in mind that a TV reprocesses the image before displaying it. It results in some cases in a relatively long latency between the image signal that your computer sends and the image being displayed.

I once tried playing on my TV (a 2 year old full-HD samsung) and this latency was even noticeable with the mouse movement. It was difficult to point at what you wanted to click with the cursor so I didnt even consider playing games on it.

Maybe some TV's are faster but you should definitely consider testing this before buying one. You wont have this kind of problem with a PC monitor.

I think most HDTVs have a "game mode" which disables the video processing to reduce the input lag.

Also make sure the TV has HDMI 2.0 connections in order to carry 4K/60Hz video. Maybe some older or less expensive models sill have HDMI 1.4 which will only handle 30Hz

A guy in my squad has a 50" 4K tv with a low latency something or other. He freakin loves it. I'll see if I can find the make and model for you.

thanks SharpeXB and Gladman.

unfortunately Vizion is not available in my country.

I think I might get Samsung or LG instead.

how about 40-60ms input lag?

is it acceptable for simming?

Input lag is not really an issue with a sim. The only time you might notice it is in a competitive fast-twitch FPS.

thanks JG27_Arklight.

If I can get it to 60fps, it is 16.67ms per frame.

so if input lag = 60ms,

it will be about 4 frames late.

are you sure it won't matter?

I'm the guy in Gladman's squadron...small correction the monitor I use is a Vizio 50" 4K...they are great with almost no lag and rated very high for gaming if you do want to play FPS games. Just make sure whatever you get as stated before has a HDMI 2.0 60Hz input! That will make all the difference in the world. And also as stated before SLI will help you with great FPS. I'm over 100fps with two GTX-970s in SLI with 1.5..for less than the price or around the same price as one 980 you'll get better performance with two 970s...And that's all you'll need for the foreseeable future with 2.0.

I'm in the same boat... currently 3 3"# samsung 1080p in surround Nvidia. THough the compatibility issues I have with Oculus is a PITA.... so onto the 4K screen...

I'm lucky to have a LG 79" UHDTV screen in the media room and having plugged the game PC into it before and run DCS 1.2 at UHD (3820x 2160p) its amazing- duh!!!

I tried it with game mode on, off , via the amp and to be honest I could NOT tell the difference in human perceived response rate and this is the important part....

all the figures and reviews tend to get too technical on things like input lag and pixel response times... yes it may be an issue if you are a competitive gamer and the difference between that 40 ms overall resonse means 3.5 frames will have gone past and you got nailed as a result and that 1million $ walks outta the door then yeah 144Hz G/F sync monitor may be just the ting you need (or tun V/G/F sync tech off )but these peeps tend to turn everything off eyecandywise.....(is that a word ?) to ensure max frame rate...

SO in our world of Flight sims I'd challenge you to weigh things up ... EPic visuals for a few frames per second lag- though I no doubt will have someone with a different point of view- bring it :)

Personally I'm holding out for a LG curved 65" screen to replace the three monitors at the moment .... just. need. to.get.past.the.wife... its an investment !!!!

Of course driving all those pixels..... that another matter at 4K you;ll need big G card horsepower I have sli 980 and it keeps up ...just! so dropping to 1080p on a 4 k screen is one option until PC and G cards fully catch up ... dont forget that at least in nvidia world you need a 9 series + card to enable 60Hz uhd output ! (hdmi 2.0) otherwise you will be locked to 30HZ anyway- and enter another form of lag!
