LtMacGowan Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 I'm flying the MiG 21 air to air mission and I'm having problems with the IR missiles acquiring the target. I ve got all the switches on, Master arm on, its set for AIR, and IR missiles, I've got the right Pylon selected (and powered up) ASP in Rocket mode, ASP Shooting Mode, and ASP Auto, and ASP GYRO/IR set to IR. I put the pipper on the target and i close and hit and hold the fire button from ranges from 2.5 miles to all the way to 0.4 and nothing. The Radar guided missiles work just fine though. Am I doing something wrong or missing something?
Elwood Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Why button holding? Works well here with air and ground targets.
Art-J Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) You mean the missile doesn't launch, or it launches but doesn't hit, as it's not quite clear from the first post. And which mission is it exactly, so we can test it ourselves? Edited November 20, 2015 by Art-J i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
Top Jockey Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Right after you get the gunsight pipper on target: Can you hear the IR missile lock audio growl ? Did a green light (based on IR missile type) appear ? Does the gunsight also tracks the target slightly off the HUD center ? LtMacGowan Posted November 21, 2015 Author Posted November 21, 2015 No IR missile lock audio and the gunsight doesn't track. Nothing happens. I tried switching the missile selector to my other IR missiles they just won't launch.
grunf Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Which missile are you using? Double check you're selecting the correct pylon (1-2 inner, 3-4 outer).

LtMacGowan Posted November 21, 2015 Author Posted November 21, 2015 1 how do i do a video track, secondly I've tried selecting all IR missiles, or mixing them up, I turn all the necessary switches on that are on the switch panel on the right side, and Master Arm, I select AIR mode, then IR mode, the pylons are all activated, i selected ASP Rocket Mode, ASP Shooting mode, ASP Auto, and ASP IR/GYRO to IR, i lock the target up with radar, and select a pylon i know is an IR missile. I fly right behind it at 6 o'clock same altitude as the target and i don't try and fire until I'm at least 3 miles away, ive even tried as close as 0.5m and nothing also I've never once got that 1 light to come on thats to the right of the "Meters to Feet conversion paper chart" below the HUD glass. Only a few times in the A-A missile training mission did i get the IR missiles to fire and even then the light never came on. I've tried changing pylons to all 4 of them when carrying 4 IR missiles and nothing, but when i carry IR and Radar the Radar ones work fine. I've even tried using those 2 per pylon Vympel IR missiles and still no joy.
Art-J Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 (edited) The green lights might come on or not, depending on type of IR missile (not all of them are "supported" by the lights). Anyway, post the mission file where it happens and a saved track so we can take a look at it. Edit - since Your landing gear problem described in other thread is most likely caused by game flight mode, check if the IR missiles work with both game flight mode and game avionics mode set to OFF. I tried target training mission with both of them ON and the IR missiles worked allright, but these modes might cause issues in other missions, as they're somewhat buggy in general. 1.JaVA_Platypus Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 A screenshots wich show all the aplicable swiches set would be very helpful. Happy Flying! :pilotfly:
LtMacGowan Posted November 21, 2015 Author Posted November 21, 2015 Ok switching off game flight mode seems to have solved the problem i do get a lock and can fire IR missiles however i still am not getting that light in the small vertical bank of 3 lights to the right of the paper meter to feet conversion chart, any ideas why this is? I've tried the R-3S and Vympel and no lights.
LtMacGowan Posted November 21, 2015 Author Posted November 21, 2015 I've found that when i turned off Game Flight mode the IR missiles will track and fire, but oddly enough the lights still won't come on.
Art-J Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Read the markings next to the lights - the lights operate only with R55, R60 and RS-2US missiles. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
LtMacGowan Posted November 22, 2015 Author Posted November 22, 2015 ah ok i tried to launch the R-60 Vympel while still under Game Flight mode, thats why i wasn't able to fire/get the light since it fixed my problem. I forgot to try that particular missile again. Thank you.
Toybasher Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 Read the markings next to the lights - the lights operate only with R55, R60 and RS-2US missiles. Isn't the RS-2US a beam rider? Or can it also be fired in SARH or even I.R. mode somehow? I've read on the forum conflicting info if it can or can't be used as a SARH missile.
