Red Flag 4 Hitting the new NTTR Theater for DCS World!

Haha nice, OK, but what could be with the spine? But to get to doctor/hospital on NTTR map from any location by car back and then back to base airfield wouldn't take longer than 30 min all in all right? And couldn't a pilot get new aircraft after 30 min. ? :)

 

And imo 3 hours isn't long, more realistically, without limiting it to time, limiting it to ammo/fuel:To prevent pilots from "wasting/spamming" their missiles at anyone: missiles can actually have a value by being limited per player. So every pilot/player limited to specific (same) amount of their missile types on both teams.So basically every jet can in general re-arm "completely" twice (for example, or 3 times), with a script counting how many missiles of each type rearmed already in the round, preventing players to re-arm more often than their allocated/allowed missile count/amount. And if a pilot dies, the missiles(types/numbers) he hasn't armed until he died can be used by anyone on the base (first come first serve basis)

And with fuel, like 3 times fuel load for each player (so that every player can completely refuel 3 times max. unless other player dies sooner, than there's more fuel for the others left).

Would be several lines of code, but shouldn't affect server stability if implemented correctly afaik

 

Stock of missiles is already modeled in DCS not sure though if it's stability friendly. There are so many things and features we want, can technicaly throw into the mix but our first priority is to make the server run smoothly for 3 hours with 60ish players.

 

Our next step will most likely be adding S&R choppers to the roster to enable downed survivors a second chance though first we have to see how the new NTTR behaves under pressure. So maybe in RF5.

Indeed!

 

Everything else can come after this, we want to start small (mission complexity) then build and build. Each Red Flag round will be more complex than the last one while we test out the boundaries!

 

But to start with we have to take baby steps to ensure everyone gets to fly without a server crash!

 

In the long run we plan to partner with other Squadrons who are keen to implement a more realistic and complex Red Flag scenario something which we are just as keen to do, we just need a little patience first :)

which currently is not possible I understand? Server crashes before? Wouldn't 30-40 players be enough? Or how many soldiers participate irl "Red Flag" ?

NTTR is a relatively new playground so more testing is needed to know the boundaries; that is why we will host a stress test on the first day then the actual battle the following one. That being said, it's looking good so far and we are confident about the 15v30 pure A2A setup for now.

We ve got a lot of ideas but the implementation must be one step at a time.

If you want to do pilot rescue, this script will disable an aircraft slot until the pilot is rescued.

 

This can be changed to instead make it so that the pilot that crashed can't fly any other aircraft relatively easily.

Great stuff, Ciribob!

 

The first thought I had is allowing a reserve pilot (or same pilot) to jump in as soon as the slot reopens after the rescue. This could be a fair way to give people who could not sign up on time a chance to fly.

 

Does the script check whether the pilot ejected and landed safely or does it work even if the pilot died (no ejection or fatal bailout)?

Currently the script disables an aircraft as soon as the pilot ejects and if the pilot is killed (either from not ejecting or failing to eject in time) then the aircraft isn't disabled by default.

 

However, there is an option to change that behaviour to permanently disable the aircraft at the top of the script if you want.

 

There is also a timer by default, that re-enables the aircraft after a set time period even if the pilot isnt rescued but that can also be disabled at the top of the script

Yes it can do exactly that, you just have to change the options at the top of the script using something like notepad++ before you add to the mission. By default it wont disable the slot when the pilot dies but change the configuration of script as below for what you want:

 


csar.disableAircraft = true -- DISABLE player aircraft until the pilot is rescued?

csar.disableIfNoEjection = true -- if true disables aircraft even if the pilot doesnt eject                

csar.disableAircraftTimeout = true

csar.disableTimeoutTime = 260

csar.disableCSARAircraft = true -- if set to TRUE then if a CSAR heli crashes or is shot down, it'll have to be rescued by another CSAR Heli!

  • RF4 will run on Saturday January 16th ONLY. There won't be any stress test as it was initially planned. Since the release of the NTTR, 104th 2.0 server has been running similar missions with same number of players with no major issues, so you'd better bring it on off the bat!
     
  • Aggressor line up will be posted by this Monday and will be a mixture of pilots from the 104th, 51st and 99th fighter squadrons based at Groom lake AFB.
     
  • Initially planned to fly as aggressors, TAW squadron will finally join forces with SF squadron to back the challenger side in this round. TAW and SF will be assigned to the aggressor coalition in the next round (RF5).

I don't think we have much to benefit from many meetings unless we practice together which might be hard to organize during the week as many people probably can't show up. Maybe we could arrange a practice session on Thursday night maybe 1800zulu for everyone who can show up. We would fly the event mission but some of us on the red side and practice tactics utilizing our superior numbers to full effect.

 

The important thing we need to discuss and decide before the event is how we team up, ie. who flies with who and how we schedule the teams, ie. if we all go out simultaneously in big waves or if we keep constant pressure on the reds. I think we can do this about 1 hour before the event when we have a better idea who are actually showing up.

 

We should set up whisper system for global channel (guard) so we can communicate between teams and use raygun call to ID friendlies or strobes. You obviously need to state your callsign when you reply to raygun for this to work ("RedShot, raygun", "Bushmanni, buddyspike").

Participation does not mean you will earn ranking points.

Red Flag is a TMC type of event (Tactical Mission) where usualy top 16 mission scores earn SA points. A negative mission score won't earn you any point ( getting shot down without scoring a kill or at least an assist).

 

Unlike many player rating systems, the principle behind SA rankings is to reward skill not flight hours.

There is a FAQ section on the website that covers how the rankings system works in detail.

Yes S version by default.

 

General update: the aggressor roster is shaping up now on the first post and will be completed a day or two.

 

Also if anyone out there is interested in flying this Red Flag but has not signed up yet, my advice is do it now, there are good chances to grab a flying seat if you turn up on Saturday as at least two pilots registered as challengers will most likely switch to agressors to fly with their squadmates.
