gulredrel Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Hello, I'm running the latest openbeta 1.5.2 and have a question regarding the KO-50. I managed to operate the heater with engines running, but how can I get it to work with main engines off? Are Batteries and APU enough to start the defroster or what else do I need (ground power)? Thank Jens
_Randolph93 Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 You need either ground power or engines running to operate the KO-50. .
gulredrel Posted December 16, 2015 Author Posted December 16, 2015 okay, thanks. So I was missing the ground power connection. Will try next time.
tovivan Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 KO basically does nothing useful, right? I mean, it doesn't help you start engines when it's seriously cold out?
wolf5 Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 It will heat your cabin People fly planes, pilots fly helicopters
Weta43 Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I always turn it on if it's cold outside :-) Keeps the cabin toasty warm... Cheers.
tovivan Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 It will heat your cabin So basically useless. Would be nice to instead get a radio option or something to get the ground crew to warm up the systems enough to be able to start at temps below -30°C. To make it a bit more realistic there would be a waiting period, like with repair. Hell, even if it means lighting a fire under the chopper like it was done during WWII. That would actually be useful.
Cibit Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Did they have choppers in WWII ? i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB
Art-J Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Yep, both Yanks and Germans, quite a few types, the ones from Sikorsky and Focke-Achgelis being most known because of being produced in numbers and deployed on the frontline. I don't think anyone used fire to warm them up though, as their fuselages were fabric covered :D. Other military vehicles? Yup. Choppers? Nope. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.

I was mostly referring to the way the Nazis kept their vehicles (trucks, cars...) engines and diesel from freezing overnight during the Russian winter by keeping small fires lit under them. PS: Soviets were experimenting with helicopters even before the war IIRC and British had some American-made in their service. In fact, the Chinook looks like a copy of a Soviet helicopter of limited production of early post-war period.
