I love to fly the F-86.:pilotfly: But after the last couple of updates to 1.2.16, 1.5.2, and 2.0 I have given up trying to land it anymore. Flies and fights just fine, but when the wheels touch down the brakes start applying themselves and the rubber skid marks commence. Steering becomes very problematic.:joystick: I know it's still "Beta" and expect some shortcomings, but this problem has only arisen within the last updates. I've tried every key adjustment available, recalibrated my CrossWinds to make sure it wasn't them, and even applied Shadoh's settings in Controls tuning to no avail. :helpsmilie:

I know whenever there are updates to the three installs I have, 1.5 and 2.0 specifically check for already installed files and make use of them in some fashion. Could this cross mixing between install iterations be causing this problem? Since I really enjoy the 86, I hope someone can enlighten me here as to how I might get back to a ground controllable plane.:( Thanks.

Certainly not normal, as I've been flying the Sabre both in 1.5.2 and 2.0 without problems. I don't have proper rudder pedals though and operate brakes by the buttons on my HOTAS. Must be some axis / controller issue then.

Sounds like a brake axis not being inverted/un-inverted, but then You would have this problem on taxing and takeoff already. What does the Ctrl-Enter input screen show during landing?

Hope this works

F-86F Landing.trk OKay, I've recorded a track. Forgive the lousy landing as I am not the most deft at maintaining my descent when switching from cockpit view to outside so you could see the braking issue. And the spin was almost instant once I keyed nose wheel steering. Once the plane stopped, even with full throttle I could not get it to budge. Thanks for your feedback. First time I have had this issue and getting frustrated trying to get it resolved.

Sounds like your toe brakes are inverted. To test, go to a cold start in the ramp , start the a/c and while holding the toe brakes on, push the throttle forward the a/c should not move. If it begins to roll at ~65% the brakes are inverted. If it skews in one direction the opposite brake only is inverted. Remember that when setting up the controls the check box for inverted needs to be positively checked or the brakes will remain inverted by default.

This one

The track, what version of the game is it for?

That's what I originally thought.

I have Crosswind pedals and they have their own configurator. It is in that app that you click the "reverse" axis for the brakes so one doesn't have to do it in the sim controls axis tune. They worked perfectly prior to all the latest updates.

Even with full throttle?

One of the issues you may have noticed in the track, and it has been the same in ramp start, taxiing also. Once the plane stops, it is as if someone threw chocks under the wheels and even full throttle cannot get it moving again. And yes, I have done a "repair" on the install. Just has me baffled. Must be something really SIMPLE I am missing. That is usually my experience with such.

Well, next step is either testing reversal through in game options only, or waiting for someone with Crosswinds to share their experiences.

That's usually a sure sign that your toe brakes are inverted.

Judging from input monitor, the brakes on his recorded track are off up till the touchdown and first application - then they're always either full or ~20% on. Someone with any pedals should comment if that's the sign of inverted axis or not.

I think I am on to it!

Trying to work through this issue I think I may be on to the problem. When I go into the Controls section and select right or left brake and then "axis tune", if I input the slightest rudder pressure, as when one is steering. the brake axis spikes to half way on. I'll look into this further. May have to run it by Milan at Crosswinds and see if there is a wear issue in the sensors. I'll keep you posted as I know there are many Crosswind users here in or community.

Starting to make sense.

Now that I think I have identified the possible source of my problem, it all makes sense. When I am landing and using the rudder input to stay aligned on the runway centerline, it is also applying about half brakes at the same time. Thus the skidding and loss of forward control. The same if taxiing on the ground. If I use the nosewheel steering, as I apply rudder input in either direction it also simultaneously applies about half braking. Not a good combination. I have sent an email to Milan at Crosswind with the problem. I'll keep everyone informed as to any corrective fix. It is an issue definitely with the pedals as it happens regardless of what aircraft I am using, so it's not something that came via an update to my installs. Thanks everyone for your help and interest in this problem.

Mea Culpa!

First order of business when doing ANYTHING that has to do with a PC, is RTFM!:book: Kept returning to the Crosswinds Configurator to see if I could nail down the problem. Found it! It was an old guy who had a brain fart. Didn't follow Milan's instructions for calibrating the Crosswinds TO THE LETTER! When I re-read the instructions and followed them explicitly, my problems have gone away. Talk about having egg on my face.:music_whistling: Now back to the F-86 in all it's glory. love that plane.
