3rd Wing - Raiden Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Hello, Thank you very much for this excellent work you've done on the Mirage. I am having a lot of fun with it. I didn't find any report about this so here it is : When taxiing, parking brake released and no wheel brake applied, the aircraft has a hard time moving, like it is glued on the ground or like if some wheel brake was applied. I have to give at least a 70% thrust for the plane to start moving. I read somewhere this aircraft should be rolling with minimal thrust. Is this a normal behavior? Could it be a bug? Thanks again for your amazing work, can't wait for the first updates.
BaconSarnie Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Check your toe brakes if you have rudder pedals, I dont own any but have read that most modules you have to invert the axis on the toe brakes for them to work. The Mirage is different and you dont have to invert the axis. If its not that then apologlies and best of luck, hope you get it sorted. And lo, Reverend Vegas did say "Take forth unto the infidel the mighty GAU 8 and expend its holy 30MM so that freedom will be brung upon them who knoweth not the joys of BBBBBBBRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTT" "Amen"
3rd Wing - Raiden Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 I think it's not inverted as I can brake while taxiing (for wheel brake testing purposes) and during landing as well.
BaconSarnie Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Have you tried bringing the control display up Right CTR+Enter to see if anything is wrong there? BaconSarnie Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Whoops, totally forgot about that. BaconSarnie Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 A thought occurs, you arent confusing fuel flow with rpm are you? Salut Raiden ;) 70% seems correct-ish, the only thing I can think of is the dicussion about engine startup (http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=157042). There is a thrust surge during startup that requires parking brake to be ON to avoid the plane to move, that surge is at 73% Otherwise at idle the RPM sit at 49% which doesn't make the plane move. I can't tell what should happen between 49% and 73% though, maybe it should move more IRL... EDIT: also, you must consider your load. Maybe the plane will move with minimal thrust when clean, but not when loaded with weapons or fuel tanks? Edited January 5, 2016 by PiedDroit
BaconSarnie Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 To start moving I generally have to go up to around 70% but then I throttle back to just above idle and she taxi's at around 15kts. 3rd Wing - Raiden Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 (edited) @BqconSarnie, I, am not confusing with fuel flow. The aircraft is like glued and the nose tends to go down a little. Like a wheel brake effect. @PiedDroit, Salut ;-) I'll try and do some more testing with various payloads. Edited January 5, 2016 by 3rd Wing - Raiden
NeilWillis Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I have always felt there is a lot of inertia getting the M-2000C rolling too. I suspect it needs tweaking to give it a similar feel to the other modules. It is very quick to slow down and stop when you close the throttle too, so I think it is inertia rather than engine thrust that is at fault.
Nealius Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I experience this as well. Parking brake off, toe brakes function as normal. No brakes are applied yet when beginning to taxi, RPM must be at least 70%, the nose gear will compress, and the airframe shudders before starting to move. After that it seems like it hits a friction-less surface and will accelerate quickly.

whaaw Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Yep that's what I'm talking about. I also have the feeling. but for me the start taxi is normal to the other plane's. The F15c as axemple also has the invisible wall at the beginning of taxi. but while taxing i also have a strange feeling in the mirage. when i taxi with 10 km/h and pull the throttle back. the baby will stop moving in about 5-10m for me this feels not right. Never used the F15C but Su-27/33 doesn't seams to do so. Yes it's like there is auto brakes when going slowly and throttle is set in the Idle position.
BaconSarnie Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I get the exact same experience with the M2000 Have to go high throttle to move it, judders, nose gear compresses, seems to be stuck then starts to move and I drop down to just above idle, about 42 on the fuel flow and it taxis nicely. I just put it down to its Beta nature. mvsgas Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I can't tell what should happen between 49% and 73% though, maybe it should move more IRL... I don't know much about the M53 engine, but it would seem like that is just ground idle. For example; in the F100-PW-220, ground idle is 60 to 76% RPM. PW-229 is 65 to 77 and the GE-100 is 62 to 80. This RPM will change depending on several factors. (air temperature, air pressure, etc.) To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..
