CrackerJack Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 So far I haven't engaged ECM in any of my flights. I've been focused on learning the radar and weapons. Any pointers on ECM employment? Ktulu2 Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Masks your distance and to ssome extent your altitude outside of the burn through I do DCS videos on youtube : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAs8VxtXRJHZLnKS4mKunnQ?view_as=public
ShuRugal Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 mostly it'll just piss off any flankers on your team, as they won't be able to use TWS mode if you are in their FoV. It also advertises your position quite nicely, and a pair of coordinated human opponents can use this to triangulate you.
Ktulu2 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Oh, it also renders the Mirage 2000's already barely functional radar 100% useless... I do DCS videos on youtube : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAs8VxtXRJHZLnKS4mKunnQ?view_as=public
MikeMikeJuliet Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Also cycling the ECM on and off periodically (say, 15 second intervals?) makes you an impossible target to shoot in BVR before radar burnthrough. I'd like to see a little more subtle ECM modes. The standard noise is just way too simple for a simulation of this caliber (especially when considering the more fully modeled aircraft). 1 DCS Finland | SF squadron
Beagle One Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 This combined with a programmable keyboard and the quirks of EDs missile logic have made player to exploit the weaknesses of DCS rather than employing so called real world tactics. Air combat is broken for quite a while and I still stick to the su-25a meanwhile doing the dirty basics basically WW2 style because that's at least currently what works somehow (except cluster bombs, still) until the shortcomings in BVR,ECM and missile behaviour are fixed I see no need for new airplanes in my hangar. For just admiring scenery I already have a plethora of addons for FSX.
winchesterdelta1 Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 (edited) Air combat will always be broken. First of all we will never get a 100% simulator. And second you fly with people online that are not fighter pilots. We just have to fight with the things we do have. So if you stick with the SU-25 for that reason you will probably stay there forever. Even if the game was 100% simulation players will find a way to go around it cause they can not die in real life playing this game. You will never get real life tactics. But you can get close to it when flying in a squadron/clan. But you can improve and force a bit of real life tactics by making objective kind of PvP missions or with a PvP (inlcuding AI) dynamic campaign. And better missiles will help as well. Edited January 24, 2016 by winchesterdelta1 Go in close, and when you think you are too close, go in closer.
*Rage* Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 (edited) Air combat will not always be broken. There are many things that could be done that would improve the situation. With regards to the OP. ECM can help mask your position till burn through. Beyond that I find it pretty much useless. Im not a big fan of ECM in game and ussually fly without it in the standard MP server brawl. winchesterdelta1 Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 If i do use ECM i mostly use ECM to mask my buddy's position. To make it harder for them to lock them. So they will be occupied trying to lock that guy in the ECM strobe. For the rest i barely use it. Go in close, and when you think you are too close, go in closer.
WildBillKelsoe Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 how did you come up with this number? Frostie Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 how did you come up with this number? It takes 15 seconds for the F-15 jammer to turn on. "[51☭] FROSTIE" #55 'Red 5'. Lord Flashheart 51st PVO "Bisons" - 100 KIAP Regiment Fastest MiG pilot in the world - TCR'10 https://100kiap.org
Svend_Dellepude Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 I could be nice if ED made those 15 seconds a cool down time instead. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Win10 64, Asus Maximus VIII Formula, i5 6600K, Geforce 980 GTX Ti, 32 GB Ram, Samsung EVO SSD.
Sweep Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 (edited) It'd be nice if there was no warm up time. So we could actually use Defensive ECM for Defensive purposes. Instead of "Look at me! I'm the Growler now!" Edit: Made a meme for that... Edited April 10, 2017 by Sweep Lord of Salt
SinusoidDelta Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 I could be nice if ED made those 15 seconds a cool down time instead. It'd be nice if they added a thermal limit to how long you can have ECM engaged and a longer cool period before using again.
