Big Nuts Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Is not so great after all? That's my impression after flying it in DCS. Lot's of energy bleed and not enough thrust. I read somewhere that an F15/F16 pilot after hearing so much good about it, got to fly it and was most un-impressed with it. Low thrust and energy bleed is a bad combination for a fighter.
probad Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 But the DCS Mirage FM still needs some work? That said though there might be some wisdom behind the US's abandonment of the pure delta.
NeilWillis Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 It still remains to be seen whether what we have is the final form of the flight modelling. I suspect it will be tweaked a lot more before RAZBAM sign it off. If I was an F-15 or F-16 pilot, I'm sure there'd be no other plane on the planet to match my pride and joy either. On the other hand, it maybe the reason NATO hasn't adopted it more widely?

Sweep Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 (edited) Its from the FA article with Spanky Clifton. Edit: Here's a quote: "The few times I did fly against them, either the jet isn't all it's cracked up to be or we were flying against the worst Mirage 2000 pilots in the French Air Force. I was not impressed." Edited January 20, 2016 by Sweep added quote Lord of Salt

On the other hand, it maybe the reason NATO hasn't adopted it more widely? the reason why the amount of users in NATO is so limited is due to the fact that the Mirage 2000 was put up for sale after the fighter competition in the 70's which made the F-16 become the mainline fighter of Norway, Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands, where the French submitted a heavily upgraded F1 as a competitor of the F16. It was after losing this bid, Dassault began the designing of the Mirage 2000, which rolled out in 1984. The only successful sale in Europe is to Greece, which bought it as a replacement of their Mirage F1's. and yes, the FM is still being worked on, Cpt Smiley confirmed that already.
Big Nuts Posted January 22, 2016 Author Posted January 22, 2016 Sure, but the FM may 'degrade' as it intercepts reality. I actually had a lot of success with it the other day, so i'm like....hmmm..

I actually had a lot of success with it the other day, so i'm like....hmmm.. i don't think thats a big issue, yes, the FM will change, and with it, the way you need to fly it. However, i stick to what i know from the bird IRL, which is staying fast, plenty of rolling, and the ability to troll F16's at below 150 knots due to the Vipers FBW locking up.

iborg Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Very interesting indeed, but I wouldn't pull conclusions about the Mirage from it's he didn't specify the exact model nor unit involved. It could have been a mudmover... facing an expert aggressor, no wonder it wouldn't be impressive. Ryzen 3600X - RTX 2080 - 32 GB Ram - DCS on SSD. MegOhm_SD Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Really don't care what he says about the Mirage. It's the whole story and wealth of insight that is the value.
