Manuel_108 Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Recently, I discovered that my GBU-12s are completely off target by 10-20 meters 4 out of 5 times. I have to add, I always use the DSMS profile to change the GBU-12 from CCIP to CCRP and enable auto lase with 12 sec lase time. However, later in the flight when I choose the GBU-12s, they are back to CCIP delivery and I have to set CCRP in the profile again. After that, I stop giving a damn about auto lase and do it myself with the NWS button on the HOTAS. I keep it depressed and it shows L L blinking on the TGP but still they keep missing. :dunno:
Mud Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 When you've set your profile, you should later then select that profile rather than selecting the GBU-12s directly. That should select them with your set profile. As for the lasing time. It's been a while since I dropped LGB's, but I always had the lase time set at 8 seconds. I thought when I keep lasing for the entire flight of the GBU it would be dead-accurate, wouldn't it?
Mud Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Actually no. Your bombs will start steering too early then and actually bleed off energy because of this. Then they can fall short in that case. In BMS you can lase all you want, and even have to lase a lot longer on moving targets. I have no clue which one is more realistic. Cik Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 are you sure you're lasing all the way to the target? i've never known gbu12 to miss, even with junk / high altitude releases. you're doing something wrong if they ever miss, TBH.
codefox Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Are you sure you turned your laser on? It's the switch left to the TGP switch. I forgot it once and wondered why I miss all the time. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
firmek Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Apart of what Mud wrote, make sure that SPI is set by TGP. I know that it may sound really basic but it happen to me a number of times to release a GBU-12 over point designated by TAD or STPT (which were enough far away from the lased target for the bomb to miss ). Otherwise if all the steps are executed correctly it's hard to miss with GBU-12. I never have this problem even if I select weapon with DMS. And instead of holding NWS key all the in-flight-time, why don't you just switch "Latch on" on A/G TGP's Ctrl page? :smilewink:
jcbak Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 After the recent update to 2.0.1, I'm noticing inaccuracy as well. In the past I've dropped hundreds of GBU12s without problem. I think there is an issue. If you are trying to auto-lase for 12 seconds from 4,000-5,000 feet or so it can cause your ordinance to over-steer, or you could get the fail auto-lase yellow notification on your MFCDs. So far, my rule of thumb has been 8 seconds below 10k, 10 seconds from 10k-15k, and 18 seconds above that. Might not be the most precise math, but it's worked for me. Also, as the others have suggested, sometimes when you're lining the target up it's easy to forget to set it as the SPI and simply only place it in point track. Manuel_108 Posted February 9, 2016 Author Posted February 9, 2016 Are you sure you turned your laser on?. Yes. I always do it during the "fence in" flow. It's blinking on the TGP page as well. Apart of what Mud wrote, make sure that SPI is set by TGP. Otherwise if all the steps are executed correctly it's hard to miss with GBU-12. I did make sure that the targets were indeed the SPI. I used JDAMs afterwards on the same SPI and they hit pretty well. Sofrry if question seems silly, but do you save your profile after setting? The latch on feature sounds great, gonna try that one thanks. Auto-lase time should correlate with your altitude. Never thought about over steering either. Now the only thing I have to solve is why my profile pages are reset when choosing the GBU via the DSMS.

I've noticed it sometimes as well, but it's much less likely when you do it through the actual profiles page, not each individual bombs profile - atleast for me anyways. MacTheGoon Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 No. I mean on the DSMS page, before you select a weapon/station hit the prof page. It'll bring up a consolidated list of different weapons you have on board. Use the osb to move the selection down (OSB mid left, can't remember exactly which one) Once you see GBU-12 highlighted click view profile at the top. Now the changes made in here will be sent to both bombs, at the same time. It's nearly identical to simply just selecting both on the DSMS page, however it does seem to stick this way. Yeah, this is standard procedure detailed even in one of the stock training familiarisation missions. What I didn't understand was the other (one-by-one) method you mentioned (probably because I never tried that one). :smilewink:
MacTheGoon Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 (edited) Oh sorry hah. Guess I misread what you were saying - apologies. The one by one I made mention of was just selecting the station one the DSMS page and viewing profile for that specific weapon on that specific station. So if you have a GBU12 on station 8, you can select station 8 and view it's profile. This is the method that gave me trouble. Manuel_108 Posted February 9, 2016 Author Posted February 9, 2016 I always do it through the profiles page. I usually look through all weapon pages and modify some values like safe release alt etc. Only thing I always change is the GBU-12 page from CCIP to CCRP. Would it be better maybe to open the GBU-12 profile, choose CCRP and save it, then go back to the profile and enable Auto Lase and save again? Shouldn't make a difference, or should it?

Well, after mentioning it, I'm not so sure any more if I don't save it one by one, only going on after pushing flashing "Save" button on each pages after any modification, but definitely not quitting back out all te way to the root page every time.

That's what I meant. I guess I have to save everytime the "save" button flashes. Now that I think of it, I'm not sure if I did that. Will try today.
Steggles Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 I've never used the save button after each change. I always change to ccrp when I need and then change auto-lase to on and set the lase time then hit save. I've never not had it work this way. Something people havnt mentioned yet, is make sure your TGP is lazing and not just IR pointing. Will have to have either L for laser or B for both laser and IR pointer. -16AGR- 16th Air Guards Regiment is always looking for pilots - http://www.16agr.com EWRS - Early Warning Radar Script Specs: Gigabyte Sniper Z5-S Intel i5-4670k 3.4GHz OC'd 3.9GHz w/ Thermaltake 120mm Water 3.0 Pro Liquid CPU Cooler 16GB RAM Gigabyte GTX 1080 TM Hotas Warthog: SN: 06976 Saitek Pro Flight Combat Rudder Pedals TrackIR5 with TrackClipPro & Oculus Rift 2x 28" 4k UHD Monitors (3840x2160 each) + 1280x1024
