GillyG Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Im only new to this, so it may of been covered before. How do i know what altitude to fly mission waypoints. I can navigate to them but i cant seem to find any information on what altitude i should fly to them at, or what altitude i should cross them at. Any help would be great-
shaz56 Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Hi GillyG, you set the altitude at the same time you set the waypoint in the editor, look for a box bottom right of the editor screen.
GillyG Posted February 13, 2016 Author Posted February 13, 2016 Ive seen that. But im more wondering if the altitudes are already set in the campaign mode? I can see all the info on how to get there but cant see what altitude i should be flying at
shaz56 Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 (edited) I see, your at the correct height when it appears your flying level (directly) to them. I think they may be shown on the right MFCD on the CDU page Edited February 13, 2016 by shaz56

I can see all the info on how to get there but cant see what altitude i should be flying at A-10C manual p. 457/458 on the Waypoint Information Page, you have the WP Elevation [EL] on LSK L2. EasyEB Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Put the CDU in "Steer" mode, elevation is right there with the other steerpoint info.

I can see all the info on how to get there but cant see what altitude i should be flying at As Shaz56 wrote, if you fly towards the waypoint, looking through the HUD the waypoint symbol in the distance should be level with your 0 degree pitch horizont line on the HUD. If it's above the horizont line, start to climb with just so much pitch that the horizont line is still visible at the bottom of the HUD. You will see the waypoint symbol wandering veeery slowly down towards the horizont line due to your climb. Or climb more agressively, then return to level flight to check symbol vs. horizont line. However I guess 3D navigation should be turned on to see waypoints floating up in the air, but it's turned on by default I guess. Otherwise you would see your waypoints projected down on the ground. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
GillyG Posted February 13, 2016 Author Posted February 13, 2016 Thanks guys! Got it sorted now, just the devils in the details i guess! Cheers!
Habu_69 Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 When using waypoints to mark target locations and other ground references, it is helpful to set the waypoint elevation to ground level.

Razor18 Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Is there a way to turn off 3D navigation? Maybe in the IFFCC test menu somewhere? You can switch it off on the CDU I gess, but if you search in the DCS manual using Ctrl-F in acrobat reader, and put "3d navigation" in the search field, it will definitely bring you there.
