WildBillKelsoe Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 I'm trying to drive my little brother into DCS. He's a console fella but I feel I want him to try DCS world. So my question is, if I repurchase DCS L-39, can I have him inside L-39C as student so I teach him a few principles? We have similar machines so he won't do flying but rather observe instruments to help get him oriented. We can link by LAN (ethernet) cable? Thanks AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Mobius_cz Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Maybe i am wrong on this but DCS is not supporting LAN at least i didn't figure how. But try to make your own server it should be fine. [sIGPIC]http://dcs-uvp.cz/images/userbars/uvp_bars_mic.gif[/sIGPIC]
Koriel Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Just install the free base on his computer and try. Host and user your ip to connect. If it works, great!, if not, you've tried.

Free base DCS won't work, he will need to purchase a 2nd copy of the module. To the OP, just create a simple mission and host it, then have your brother connect. Should work just fine. Shahdoh Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 As long as both have access to the Internet, then yes, one machine can connect via direct IP to the other. The internet is still required initially for license verification. So, not really a lan only solution, but still pretty easy to setup. Just start a new server, Public or not, just set a password and the other can either select it from the list or direct via IP. As far as interaction between pilot and instructor in the L39, I hear it's working better then ever except for a bug where lag on 1 machine or the other can cause damage to the aircraft. Good luck
Ramsay Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 We can link by LAN (ethernet) cable? AFAIK you both will need to connect to ED's master server to play over your LAN. It won't matter if your LAN is wired (Ethernet) or wireless, as long as both PC's can connect to the internet Free base DCS won't work, he will need to purchase a 2nd copy of the module. AFAIK The OP can download the base game (perhaps via steam?) Create a second ED account for his bother and create a MP Su-25T mission to test the mechanics of hosting, etc. before buying a copy of the L-39 for his brother the free modules (Su-25T/TF-51D) are part of the base install anyway and so part of a L-39 install, the OP will just be testing his LAN compatibility before purchase. i9 9900K @4.8GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 11 Pro x64, Odyssey G93SC 5120X1440

1.JaVA_Platypus Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 You'll need an internet connection to get into the lobby first. After that, you can connect by IP. 19.168.2.whatever. Happy Flying! :pilotfly:
