ex81 Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 (edited) Ooops, I did not see that there were almost 3 pages. So, don`t go on reading this post !!!! Hi, you can download more than one manual (quick star guide, manual, etc.) from the download pages when you choose the web site of DCS. I`m also relativly new to this "game" and reading TFM did help a lot. Imho, all you need to be sucessful is time , time and patience. Good luck. ex81 Edited March 1, 2016 by ex81 What goes up, must come down ! Remarkymarkable Posted March 1, 2016 Author Posted March 1, 2016 Awesome! I'm well on my way! Anyone know it there are "hard copies" of the flight manual available anywhere? It would be nice be able to have it handy while in the SIM.

Remarkymarkable Posted March 1, 2016 Author Posted March 1, 2016 Thanks GurbY, just ordered the paperback. ( $200 for the hardcover :( )
apolloace Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Though I am not new to flight sims, I am not a expert either, but I find it relatively easy to land the A10C, compared to the Su25T. :) I know they are at different levels of flight models (AFM for Su25T & PFM for A10C), nevertheless I used to break one of the landing gears on the Su25T regularly during the initial learning phase. With the A10C I crash-landed only once during the rookie phase. I have even landed safely without the flaps or airbrakes extended, only controlling my speed & attitude of the aircraft (only possible for long runways). For a PFM aircraft, I find it strange, that landing seems so easy. :D Rig - I7-9700K/GIGABYTE Z390D/RTX-2080 SUPER/32-GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE RAM/1-TB SSD Mods - A10C / F18C / AV8B / Mig21 / Su33 / SC / F14B

My guess is that it has to do with the SAS. The A-10C just flies more smoothly and seems to dampen oscillations. Not to mention it has a TVV, which is just more intuitive to me than a simple vertical velocity indicator.
Gliptal Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 The sheer presence of an FPM and an AoA indexer make landings trivial in anything but IFR conditions. Provided both work and are consistent, you can easily land any aircraft safely on your first try.
bzhnono Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Try the last mission of the Ennemy Within, the final landing, even if not IFR is pretty tricky [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Fish Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Thanks GurbY, just ordered the paperback. ( $200 for the hardcover :( ) Might be better saving for a cheap 10" tablet. GurbY Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Might be better saving for a cheap 10" tablet. Hmmm. Yes and no. Although I like things like search etc in a doc on a tablet, I still very much appreciate the printed manual...
yipster Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 That's not surprising! I, too, find the A-10C to be much easier to land compared to the Su-25T. My guess is that it has to do with the SAS. The A-10C just flies more smoothly and seems to dampen oscillations. Not to mention it has a TVV, which is just more intuitive to me than a simple vertical velocity indicator. I think the A10C is the easiest plane to land in the whole DCS module library given the stability of the plane's design and slow approach speed required. I'd say landing the A10C in ILS and crosswind is easier than the Dora in calm weather. Back on topic, Remarkymarkable should keep trying with the given hints here. It sounded like you're in too fast for the approach. Maybe after a failed attempt, save the track file and upload it here, we could have a look at what you did wrong and give you some constructive feedback based on your actions. :) Good luck :) 1
Remarkymarkable Posted March 4, 2016 Author Posted March 4, 2016 I've pretty much got it now, I soon as I learned where the speed brake control was on the HOTAS I've had perfect landings!
Yurgon Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 I'd say landing the A10C in ILS and crosswind is easier than the Dora in calm weather. Amen to that. ;)
