TomOnSteam Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 (edited) Given my own health, I've spent the last 3 years going full study sim mode. Not on a DCS module, but nutrition. And I know that many people in the flight sim community are middle aged or perhaps even approaching their golden years. And seeing the recent post that a popular community member has died made me decide I should share this information. I didn't want to post this in the RIP thread, as it would be disrespectful, and my intention is certainly not to use a tragic event to get attention. It's just that when I saw the cause of the death, and the young age it reminded me of how big of a deal nutrition plays in health. My intention of posting this is to help everyone live longer and healthier, both physically and mentally, as this will allow you to enjoy DCS for much MUCH longer. There was a recent talk with Dr. Michael Greger at the Google office that I hope you will all find enlightening. 7rNY7xKyGCQ Yes it goes for an hour, but I guarantee that if you take the time to watch it and apply a few principles to your life, you'll get at least a year back! :) There are other great sources too: The Engine #2 Diet by Rip Essylstyn Power Foods for the Mind by Dr. Neal Barnard The Starch Solution by Dr. John McDougall How Not To Die by Dr. Michael Greger The China Study T.Colin Campbell (There are the most recent ones, just about any book from the authors will do). Many of these books are also available in different languages if English isn't your preferred reading language. I know that many people will be quite skeptical, and that's fair enough, I was skeptical as well since there are so many fad diets coming out each year, with seemingly contradicting science research being released every week(The books and talks will explain why that is). But please trust me, I'm not selling anything, and neither are the authors. In fact many of them give their book profits straight to charity. They're also part of an organisation called the PCRM - Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. Yes the organisation that routinely sues the US Department of Agriculture for releasing misleading nutritional recommendations. Feel free to ask any questions, as I do consider myself a bit of a lounge chair expert on this topic :) All I want is for everyone to be informed in order to make the best choices for themselves and their family. cichlidfan Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Whatever route you take, it goes without saying that paying attention to your health, especially as you get older, is really important. My 52 y.o. younger brother just had a heart attack two weeks ago. After they installed a stent, in a coronary artery, they informed him that this was actually his second heart attack. OneBlueSky Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Whatever route you take, it goes without saying that paying attention to your health, especially as you get older, is really important. My 52 y.o. younger brother just had a heart attack two weeks ago. After they installed a stent, in a coronary artery, they informed him that this was actually his second heart attack. Same thing happened to my cousin in 2015. Had a massive heart attack and had to have a quadruple bypass, and was told he'd had a heart attack in the past that he never even knew about. These things are terrifying, good thread, people really need to stay on top of their health. It's not hard if you make the right lifestyle changes and you feel SO much better anyway. I became much more physically active starting about 4 years ago, eating much more lean and healthy and the extra bit of "work" is worth it, can't even explain how much better I have just from a bit of daily running and a diet change. Mustang Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 (edited) Outstanding!! That is some serious weight loss. Yeah it's been an interesting 12 months, if i knew one year ago i'd be where i am now i'd laugh and say no way :D P.S had a day off today, have to give the old joints a rest (achilles tendon in my left foot is aching a bit) but tomorrow i'll be back at it with a nice 11 mile run - this one's my favorite route :) Edited March 12, 2016 by Mustang

SNAFU Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 Being fit and healthy is the best thing in the world. At the end of the day, in many cases living longer means only to suffer longer. I guess the "middle route" is still the best. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Unsere Facebook-Seite
The Black Swan Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 Just for interest, check out the Gerson therapy. It's used for cancer. Most mainstream docs reject it despite its 90% some success rate. Very hard diet though. Usually cancer paitents are the ones to take it. GeForce GTX 970, i5 4690K 3.5 GHz, 8 GB ram, Win 10, 1080p
