ThePutzer Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Using the same start up procedure as before Today's update...Engine does not spool up at all, when it normally rolls up to 11%.. Heck started it 1/2 dozen times just today before update..Now wont work in single player or multiplayer (2 diff servers). Do I need to force a new install with updater or uninstall aircraft and re-install?? With same problem of game locking up (black screen) when trying to save controls!! AS others have posted as well.. Took 4 attempts to set up controls on fresh install (DCS & M2000). Just a few days ago. Frustrated ThePutzer

ThePutzer Posted April 1, 2016 Author Posted April 1, 2016 start up 1, close canopy 2, ask startup atc 3, vent selector switch middle position 4, turn on r&l fuel boost switches 5, starter fuel pump on 6, flip starter cover 7. click starter button 2,3 seconds 8. apply pk brake 9, when rpm's get to 11% throtle up to 50% 10. close starter cover,, turn off starter pump,,close vent BUT now it never spools up at all 0% Thanks for quick response..Cpt. S I'll probably just uninstall and start over. ThePutzer I really do luv flying it when it starts
Azrayen Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Hi You shouldn't throttle up to 50% (of throttle course, I guess?). You should just throttle enough to pass the idle/stop step. Otherwise, you do it right. I dunno if the throttle 50% is the problem (didn't test); I can start without problem using this procedure. Don't bother uninstall all, try the DCS repair feature first, it's way quicker!

Yep, I saw it this morning, but it would start w/o batery? batery switch is off by default at new patch. But another thing could be the keybinding failing you're disscusing here... Robin_Hood Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 The battery switch should be flipped on at the very beginning of the procedure. The other are actually never flipped off, this must be why they are on by default now. 2nd French Fighter Squadron

Shively Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 (edited) Hate to bump this, but it seems that this bug is now present in the "stable" version. I'm not certain, but it appears that the engine starter itself is the problem, doesn't seem to be depressing (showing the animation at least) in the cockpit despite going through startup as per usual. Additionally, the throttle is no longer "locked" on spawn-in and unable to be pushed past the "idle" position until the engine is started - could that have to do with the starter not functioning? As noted, the keybind doesn't seem to be working either. I'm assuming auto-start works, but I haven't given that a shot just yet. Have noticed this in singleplayer missions and multiplayer, going to create a new mission from scratch to see if it's broken there too. Edit: Seems like squadron members of mine have it working, however the same startup procedure I was using last night (Left/right boost pump switches up, open up the cover on the starter, throttle to idle and hold starter) doesn't seem to be getting any ignition. Edited April 9, 2016 by Shively
Shively Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 I'm unclear of the current issue could you please expand? When you do click the starter ensure your throttle is in the OFF detent before you do. If you move your throttle forward before that it will move into the IDLE detent and you must press the engine stop button to allow it to fall from the IDLE detent stop back to OFF to allow the engine to motor before igniting. Let me know if this helps. Had some issue with my "sync cockpit controls with HOTAS at spawn-in" setting, but deactivated that to do some more testing. At the moment I'm not having any better luck after double-checking my throttle was in the "off" detent. I'm beginning to think I might be going crazy over this one, toggled all the switches in the startup panel off and back on again to double-check and make certain I had everything right, and I'm still not getting her to start.

Shively Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 I had the same issue after yesterday's update. Did a DCS repair and now everything works as it should again. Yeah, just did a restart of my machine and did a run of the repair tool. Still no joy however. Problem appears to be with the starter itself - I've got the throttle in the "off" detent position now, but I'm not getting any visible depression of the button in the cockpit and no sound effect when I press the starter. Again, I tried to get around it by using the "engine start" keybind, but that didn't seem to produce any results.
nomdeplume Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 I don't think I've ever heard/seen any effect when I press the engine start button, but it's always worked fine for me. Could you maybe post a track of your startup? As I understand it, the tracks record user input so if there's an issue with your installation, a track where your jet fails to start might start when played back on another computer?

Azrayen Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Yes. As they should :) Ground power seems unavailable at the moment, though. Razbam said they're working on the electric system and some parts are still WIP, I guess that's one of those.
nomdeplume Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 I think I might have found the issue with the starter not working. Repro: Cold start. Battery, fuel pumps, starter switch on. Move throttle forward so it no longer moves back to the 'stop'/'off' position, and will go back to 'idle'. Use the "Engines STOP" command (Default: RShift+End) - throttle will move to the stop/off position. Press engine start button. No effect. I tried binding "Engine IDLE -> OFF Button" (no default) and when I used that instead, it worked fine. On more careful investigation, it looks like "Engines STOP" presses and holds down the Engine Shutdown Button next to the throttle. While it's held down, the engine won't start. (That sounds logical. :)) So if you use "Engines STOP" (RShift+End) you can just left-click the little red Engine Shutdown Button just to the right of the throttle to pop it back out. Once it's out, the engines will start normally. I'm not sure what "Engines STOP" is supposed to do that's different to the "Engines IDLE -> OFF Button". Although the "Engines START" doesn't appear to do anything, so perhaps these are the 'auto startup' and 'auto shutdown' binds? (Normally those are in the 'cheat' category though, and use the WinLogoKey+Home/End.)
TomCatMucDe Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 i tried the procedure it works. Now you have to have the throttle to off otherwise the engine wouldnt start.

After I went through reinstalling both beta and stable versions and spending much time re-doing my settings and fiddling around with configs. Geesh! Hours wasted.
Davee Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Sorry about the trouble for you guys. In the next update, the bindings will work and the startup will be much more consistent, only thing you really have to be sure of is that your throttle is in the OFF detent before motoring but other than that made multiple fixes based on your reports on this issue.
