The Mig-29 radar contacts appearing on the HUD is very functional, everything is straight ahead right where you're looking. Not so with the F-15 radar contacts, you need 1 eye straight ahead and the other eye looking down at the VSD radar contacts. The TEWS on the other hand gives a great advantage to the F-15.

Any tips?

Thank you.

You don't need to be looking at the radar in close combat, so it's not such a big deal.

Also, the sweep time can be long enough that you can set the radar to search and do other things, then just glance at it.

It's easy to get distracted, however in beyond visual combat it's important to get early contact, with head on contacts you don't have much time to plan an intercept even at 80kts.

Don't worry about that. Most of the time ppl will fly straight into your face, so just have your missiles ready.. :)

fitness88, in BVR you almost always have time. If by BVR you mean inside 20nm, you've prepared for this fight poorly or you have been successfully ambushed or you have overreached, IMHO. :)

But, having said that, the real F-15 radar has some features that help you reacquire like nobody-business, including automatic target designation and sorting in TWS.

The issue is you can move your eyeballs in DCS, you have to move your head. Set up a snap view so you can quickly glance at the VSD. I'm not sure what you're on about Svend and GG, unless you're talking IRL 20nm or just trying to poke fun.

What I'm saying is in order to acquire out at 60-80kts you should be moving your radar manually to scan all altitudes. While raising and lowering your radar scans you have to keep an eye on the VSD for targets and to watch your scan elevations. All I'm saying is that having gotten used to the Russian HUD VSD display with everything in front of you on the HUD it's a bit of an adjustment in the F-15.

Thanks, yes I have snap views set up.

I was just wondering if anyone else who made the Mig-29 to F-15 transition felt the same.

Snap views are great, they help a lot.

That being said how do you find other important tools for BVR such as the Beroyza placement compared to the TEWS, personally having the HUD, radar and TEWS all high up in the cockpit seems a much easier option for quicker SA building.

i find the f-15 display a lot faster to read than the russian hud display exactly because it's separate from the hud. there's less clutter and the symbols are a lot more defined.

when i first started on the eagle i thought everything on it was a load of crap compared to the russian format. the hud seemed cluttered and imprecise.

it really just boils down to what you gain proficiency in.

Yes, i had the same feeling when i first started using the 15. back in FC2. I felt that the American implementation was very intuitive and required so much work compared to the russian counterpart. But after getting used to it, i found that it was so much better because of the amount of information provided, and provided with clarity.

The main thing I find the Beryoza lacks is aircraft type ID like the TEWS has, as for its placement it's nice if you want to sit further back you can see the HUD and the TEWS, but since I use snap view a lot it's not an issue where it is.

Quite right, spending more time and getting comfortable is the task I have ahead.

Thanks all for the feedback.
