jfri Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 A couple of times when doing the operation save badger campaign I have encountered that pressing the weapon release button does not release my GBU 38 bombs. I have checked that GBU 38 is selected and have set the SAM site as SPI. The range bar starts counting down between max and min cues but pressing weapon release does not do anything. What could be wrong in such a case ?
Zabuzard Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 (edited) Confirm that the GBU does read "RDY" on the DSMS Page and not for example "ALN UNS". I assume you're holding down the trigger for more than one second, not just tipping it. Also confirm you're not flying offset to the target. Though you're using guided ammunition, you need to be at least in the vicinity of the correct release position. Well, a track would probably solve your problem immediately :) I found that the common problem is that it reads "ALN UNS". If so, it mostly is due to a wrong startup procedure. Mainly not waiting for CDU INS to reach 4.0 0.8, or moving the aircraft during alignment (taxiing too early). After that possible problems may be not selecting 'EGI' as navigation source or not engaging the EAC switch (in this case the EAC light lights up). If it still reads "ALN UNS" after checking those, try to fly some turns, this may help the GPS system to acquire your position in the world. CDU INS reached 4.0 0.8 (do not move the aircraft until alignment is completed): GBU having the correct state "RDY", not "ALN UNS": Edited April 14, 2016 by Zabuza

jfri Posted April 15, 2016 Author Posted April 15, 2016 What was your altitude? I know that I was at 20000 ft at waypoint 1 (which I'm supposed to be from what I have understood) after that it could have changed somewhat don't know how much.

Could it be that I must wait for alignment to finish before I select NAV on the CDU ?
QuiGon Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Yes I think it read ALN UNS and remember that CDU INS never finished aligning. Could it be that I must wait for alignment to finish before I select NAV on the CDU ? Yes you need to wait for the INS to reach 4.0 08 before you select NAV and start moving. Aginor Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Definitely. Switching to NAV stops the alignment. If you are in a hurry during startup, try requesting ground power and turn on the CDU early. That way the alignment has finished once you have done the rest of the startup. Saves a few minutes. DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet
Flamin_Squirrel Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 I assume you're holding down the trigger for more than one second, not just tipping it. I think Zabuza has probably identified where you're going wrong. You MUST hold down the trigger button until the bomb releases. If you don't, the weapon will hang on the pylon and the green highlight around the GBU-38 text (shown above) will turn red.
Zabuzard Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Nonetheless, as long as it reads "ALN UNS", they won't drop because their navigation system has not aligned.
