Braeden108 Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 I've been flying the Kamov more and more. I'm getting better and keeping her stable but I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for good maneuvers to practice for learning better helicopter control? Light the tires kick the fires! kilix Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 (edited) try funnel. I like doing funnel around a minaret. Also try to fly backwards, sideways, etc. Flying sideways while pointing your nose precisely at the enemy can save your butt someday. Also good practice is doing a low level high-speed flight and trying to stop as fast as possible without gaining too much altitude or crashing. Also landing in small or tight areas is challenging. I started with landing on a football field (which was hard enough, when I started with this sim!), then I landed on some big building (looked like a hospital), then smaller buildings, ships, then I even tried to land on a chimney, I failed miserably after an hour-long struggle (don't do that, it's impossible). Ka-50 is very nimble, it can do barrel rolls, loops, you can try them all. Or, maybe those are not good practice actions, it's just what I like to do. Fri13 Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Military breaking is a must, and very effectice. You can fly 290-310kph at 3m altitude and then slow down to hover in about 50-70m distance without raising above trees. The real challenge is to avoid vortex in the final meters. That allows you to master quick attacks, escape from areas and break behind small obstacles for cover. King_Hrothgar Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 There are a few good ways to improve your chopper handling. The first place to start is simply taking off and landing in tight places. This can be between buildings in a town or on a roof, but anywhere well defined will work. For high speed maneuvering, try weaving between powerline poles (under the lines of course) as fast as you can. Weaving between buildings in a larger town is also helpful but harder to find a good place to do it. Finally, try playing peakaboo with a SAM by side slipping out of cover until shot at, and then side slip back into cover. Do all that, and you'll be better than 90%+ of Ka-50 pilots in MP.

Try landing on a moving train on the Baltic area map in 1.5. Have not tried it yet in 2.0, they also have moving Greyhound buses and semi tractor trailers. I've been sim-flying the Ka-50 about 5 years and am just getting so I'm fairly good with it. I still need fine tuning. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
KLR Rico Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 I like sideways flight while attacking and funnels. I always use FD mode when doing maneuvering flight, you get some dampening without having to fight the AP. i5-4670K@4.5GHz / 16 GB RAM / SSD / GTX1080 Rift CV1 / G-seat / modded FFB HOTAS
Isegrim Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Find something at the Airport you are on(a Radar or other ground unit). Start flying circles and keep the distance to the ground unit the same and the nose pointed forward to the ground unit. First slow...later faster.> Practise Also a good practise is to fly zigzags through the Aircraft shelters at low level. "Blyat Naaaaa" - Izlom
Gizzy Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 .... I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for good maneuvers to practice for learning better helicopter control? The Ka-50 manual is excellent in many manoeuvre descriptions... It would be good to completely master these before moving on to other things... StrongHarm Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Instead of using FD mode for funnels I prefer to turn the HeadingAP channel off. Holding trim or using FD mode is inefficient when the only axis you want to affect is heading. Having HeadingAP off does not make the aircraft unstable. If I haven't flown the Blackshark for a while, I warm up by taking off and performing a funnel around the tower, then practice high speed braking. More on funnels: - Trim out to hover (not autohover) - Turn HeadingAP off - Point nose toward tower about 100ft away - Slowly add on right stick while simultaneously pressing the left pedal to keep nose on tower - Start out a few hundred feet from the tower and concentrate on keeping your altitude and distance from the tower the same, while keeping your nose pointed at the tower - Slowly work your way in closer to the tower and get a feel for control coordination NOTE: When performing this maneuver; your collective, cyclic, and pedals should be in almost constant motion maintaining stable flight. Think of it like playing the drums. The biggest challenge is to get all three working symbiotically. The good news is that once you get it, muscle memory remembers it and you won't have to work so hard at it in the future. **When you get good at it, you should be able to trim yourself into a nice hands off funnel 2k out from targets and destroy them with disgusting efficiency, while making yourself a difficult target. Take note that if you're in a trimmed funnel you'll have to have Heading AP on... and Auto Turn To Target helps a lot too. It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm
BaD CrC Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Well I guess you can tell how good you are with the Ka50 when you start to systematically perform successful auto rotations. https://www.blacksharkden.com http://discord.gg/blacksharkden
Fri13 Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Well I guess you can tell how good you are with the Ka50 when you start to systematically perform successful auto rotations. Auto rotations are now easy with every helicopter. And that after all as well belongs to basic flight lessons for any helicopter pilot. The real and only challenge is that you just need to have faith that you can slow down when you are in free fall :D i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.
