ponhard Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Hello! After having a frustrating time with solding my warthog stick (got it working) and warthog throttle dead and reading tons of post of people having trouble with their TM hotas I starting to look at Saiteks products. Any experience with the X-52 or X-56? How do they compare to the Warthog? slicker55 Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 (edited) No, but I did have the X-55 together with the well-documented USB issues, unreasonable delay in Windows 10 driver support and lack of customer support. That said, you might be surprised to learn that I was pleased with the X-55's in terms of value for money and the array of switches and (arguably more important) rotaries which come as standard. I also enjoyed a very quick sale via Ebay after taking delivery of my Warty and incidentally got back more for the X-55's than I actually paid for them new due to it being on the lead-up to Christmas and the fact that supplies had totally run dry in the UK for some reason. Anyway, enough about me... back to you... (hahahahaha), I'm disappointed to hear you have experienced problems with your Warty - have you tried speaking to TM to see if they can help out / maybe they could be persuaded to offer some form of good will gesture or at least make a contribution towards the cost of a replacement? It might be worth mentioning that you're an active member of this forum and that other Warty customers are waiting to see how things pan out :) Going back to the question of purchasing Saitek, (or any other brand for that matter) and at the risk of stating the obvious, you will get what you pay for and I do wonder if you will be entirely happy with something which would, after all be inferior to what you have been used to using? Sokol1_br Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Cheap/bad quality pot's in secondary axis, no spare/replacement parts (with some exceptions for some users), immature programming software... But cost less. :)
Johnny Dioxin Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 That sums it up nicely ^^ Rig: Asus TUF GAMING B650-PLUS; Ryzen 7800X3D ; 64GB DDR5 5600; RTX 4080; VPC T50 CM2 HOTAS; Pimax Crystal Light I'm learning to fly - but I ain't got wings With my head in VR - it's the next best thing!
agentdarnell Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Had my x55 for a few years and no problems with it. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Ragtop Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Thrustmaster is the superior product in most aspects. It's unlucky that you've had issues but repairing/replacing is a better solution than seeking an alternative in my opinion. I've had the Warthog and the X-52. The 52 was reliable but I wouldn't go back to it. Very cheap feeling and the software was garbage. 476th vFG Alumni
1.JaVA_Platypus Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Well... I hate using software to program my joystick. So I never use it. It is not at all very usefull unless you want to program some kind of macro. Happy Flying! :pilotfly:
pepin1234 Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 I have a X-52 pro. I happy with this Joystick. You always got troubles with Saitek Joystick, but is good to say all are solved. The Saitek software is awesome. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
slicker55 Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 I have to add that I also quite liked Saitek's H.U.D software despite reading numerous negative comments about it. That said, I am now fully acquainted with TM's T.A.R.G.E.T software which, quite frankly, wipes the floor with Saitek's offering. I don't think there is a huge difference between the X-55 and Warty throttles but IMHO the Warty stick is in a completely different league to Saitek one. i7-5820K 3.30Ghz | Asus X99-S | Sapphire R290X | R7 240 | 16GB DDR4 PC4 2800MHz | Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD (OS) | Samsung 840 EVO 500GB SSD (DCS) | Noctua NH-D14 2011 Cooler | OCZ ZT 750W '80 Plus Bronze' Modular PSU | NZXT Phantom Enthusiast | 3 x IIyama Prolite E2473HDS 24" | 1 x Dell S2240T 21.5" Touch Screen | Windows 10 64-Bit | AMD Eyefinity 5760 x 1080 | TrackIR5 | TM Warthog HOTAS | MFG Crosswind 1771 | Vaicom Pro + VA (Licensed) | Sennheiser Game Zero | Honeycomb Yoke (June 2020)]
ponhard Posted June 14, 2016 Author Posted June 14, 2016 Thanks for your inputs! I contacted Thrustmaster support and after a few steps they came to the conclusion that it was probably the main pcb that had malfunctioned. I ordered a new one, got it to my door today and replaced my old one withe the new pcb. Took about 5 min to do, really simple. Voilá! Throttle works again! It was really worth checking it up. Cost was around 55€ instead of buying a brand new set. I had really forgot have stupid it feels to throttle aircrafts on keyboards! :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Windows 10 Pro - Asus Z370 Prime A - i7-8700K @ 3.70GHz - 32 GB DDR4 - Nvidia GTX 1080 - Oculus Rift CV1 - HOTAS Warthog - CH Pro Pedals Puukko - Kossu - HK Sininen Lenkki
jcbak Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Glad to see you got things sorted. I've had issues with inferior pots used by Saitek with the Combat Pedals....just for the record. VIKBELL Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 If you get X-55 make you have 2 3.0 usb ports There are 2 categories of fighter pilots: those who have performed, and those who someday will perform, a magnificent defensive break turn toward a bug on the canopy. Robert Shaw
roob Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 I'm gonna see if I can get one of those PCBs aswell. My throttle is dead. For anyone else reading, can't recommend Saitek either. Have had the X-52 and the rudder pedals (not Pro) and they both have just died. My DCS stream [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Past broadcasts, Highlights Currently too much to do...
