Go to this link and scroll all the way down until you reach"Terminator Vision: How does a Pulse Doppler Radar see the world?" This is super helpful in explaining how radar works and how to better avoid it in game. I learned a thing or two on how it works. Great stuff. There is also a little bit above talking about infrared missiles. Hope this helps m8, cheers.

Thanks mate, that certainly helps.

Any missions or advanced tactics usable?

I basically set up my custom presets as dump 12 flares as fast as possible, and one to do the same with chaff. Confuses pretty much everything. Especially IR SAMs. I can actually just orbit over an IR SAM site, and just pop the flares when the missle is about 1/3 of the way to me.

"60% of the time, it works every time."

But seriously, it's pretty effective.

Also, remember to keep the threat where you can get a visual on a launch, an MLWS warning, or both.

Program C is my go to standart program when there is no radar sams around. It is pretty good, especially when there are some sneaky manpads around.

That helped me alot :)

Maybe it'll help you too.

Yeah the auto is ok, but setting profiles based on mission type are the best. Sams, drop flares and turn into the sun. Radar/milli wave just pop those chaffs and corkscrew towards the ground, as the solid rocket motors on most opposing force Sams can't angle back down without a breakup or radar loss/self destruct. (In the real world anyways) ☺

476th - Countermeasures Programs

Get away from the Default CM presets. They are useless. Here's the mod from the 476th for an adjusted set thanks to Eddie's testing.

If you know what you are facing, you can easily make your own profile. (I never use default ones, I always configure like, A program IR SAMs and the B for Radar guided missels, if needed you can configure more than simply two)

I wouldn't say that, the C program is like 90% effective against MANPADS and Strelas. I am interested to try those though.

ETA: Quick test against an Igla, SA-9 and SA-13, for me the default C program was much more effective than C or D in the modded profiles. It uses a LOT of flares, but using a lot of flares is better than dying.

Alright guys, awesome conversation and I'm learning a lot here.

Tonight I tried the second mission of Operation Jackal.

There are 4 AAA close togheter and there's no way to overfly them to use CBU97s. So, a standoff attack with Mavericks will do the trick.

Problem is that they fire at an incredible rate.

Avoided 3 IR SAMs but used up almost all the Flares. Died at the fourth one.

When ML was detected I would put myself at 90 degree and fly low, throttle to idle and start launching flares.

I'm just wondering how in the world would I go about destroying 3 of these sites, each with 4-5 AAA in it.

Any suggestions?

As I said, if you know what you are facing, you can be almost untouchable, if you don't have anything more than some AAA and IR SAMs, you can easily fly over them. 16,000ft is enough (also depends on terrain level) to fly over IR SAMs without any missile launch from them. But if you have Mavericks, use them to destroy the SAMs, then you can do your mission easier. Of course, it depends on your mission, everything I wrote here might not work for you, just an example, depending on the mission, flying at high altitudes is the best option. If you can fly at high altitudes, use that, like a lot. Anything from the ground will not kill you at high altitudes (except radar guided missiles).

Just found out that those were Tunguskas. So I guess I need to fly up to 20.000 ft, like you said.

Oh well, will try again.

The Tunguska's missiles are really bad, they don't do anything, if you know what you are doing. (but don't underestimate the enemy.. there is no greater danger than underestimating your enemy) but I need to ask you a question, why don't you kill them using MAVs? I can't remember but 20,000ft is more than enough, you can fly with less altitude without any launch from the Tunguska, safety. but I'd kill them. No reason for letting them alive.

I swear buy the K program. You can just mash the button and it will drop 2 flares per button press. Most missles tend to give up and go for the light show. Also cutting the throttle reduces the thermal signature of your engines.

Light the tires kick the fires!

Yep, I was killing them with MAVs. But you need to be within 9 miles to launch a MAV and they were picking me up right away.
