VRchit chat: i am still working on my VR legs, should i play DCS now or wait for 2.5?

It's cockpit based so it's not that bad. Also if you've had a lot of experience playing flight sims and if it's pretty second nature to you then the idea of moving in three dimensions shouldn't be an issue. I find from testing it on other people those that are most comfortable with flying or this concept of moving in all directions are the users that don't feel nausea.

if you feel like you are a vr lightweight, I would suggest trying to work on roles or aircraft that reduce the need for frantic/disorienting types of movement.

Flying a helicopter on a supply mission, or just working on pattern flights and takeoffs/landings. go on a server with tankers and attempt a flight for a midair refuel etc

If you feel uneasy, the worst thing to do would be to jump into dogfights or the type of flights that have you inverted rapidly checking 6 for fast moving targets. I think you'll find that with a bit of time you'll become more accustom to flying in vr and then you can work your way up from there.

The only thing that's made me really sick was a No Limits 2 roller coaster. I would just try some gentle flying in DCS to get used to. Save the dogfights for when you are more comfortable, but just flying and practicing shouldn't be too bad.

Go and fly, but take it easy as you get used to it!

I had concerns starting out, actually scored a deal on my CV1 because the original owner had motion sickness issues. With DCS I started off with simple pattern work in the C-101, the suggestion for helicopters is also good. While people who are used to immersive sim environments such as surround and trackir are probably going to adapt faster, I suspect that people who have actual instrument flight time would have the least amount of issues. Learning to ignore differences in positional information between the inner ear and the instruments is a critical skill in instrument flying. Even now with close to a week of time flying with the CV1, I'm not trying aggressive dog fighting maneuvers just slowly still building up. While its likely that I would be fine at this point, I'd much rather avoid any unpleasantness any any negative mental associations that go along with it.

i just tried a quick mission on OB 1.5 with the CV1. very impressed. i wish the Su-25T had a pilot body, but immersion is amazing. i havent installed starway's terrain DLC. so much to do, buttkicker to be setup. truly next gen. very cool to see the pylons get dump when i jettisoned stations, and watch the air brake open and close... seeing the shadows on the cockpit gauges... wow..

slight motion sickness.. but im wondering if its the plastic smell... im start to get somewhat nauseous from the smell..

anyway to get rid of the industrial odor?

also, how can i change the eject command to eject on one button press, and not three?

i built ejection handle, but its annoying i have to pull the handle three times to initiate ejection... :/

I'd definitely recommend you give up on VR immediately, and give away the unwanted headset to someone deserving (me)!

Seriously though, I am sure the motion sickness you feel can be managed short-term by taking travel sickness medication while you train your brain to understand the situation, and become acclimatised.

I'd also recommend you at least set up and experiment a little with DCS World. As said elsewhere, the sim is primarily cockpit based, and sitting in a motionless coccoon with just the world outside rotating in 3 dimensions may be less likely to send your sensory confusion into overdrive.

exactly. 30 mins a day for a few days and gradually increase my VR dosage..

The only thing I've heard for the headset's odor is just to leave out of the box to air out. The smell coming from mine has greatly reduced over the last week. That said, it still is definitely there, at this point I'm starting to expect that there will always be a bit of it. Part of me wonders if wiping the exterior fabric parts with some febreze on a rag could help neutralize the smell. I don't dare do anything to the inside section after reading the warning that says not to use alcohol lens cloths to clean the lenses as they can damage the coatings. After I clean my normal corrective vision glasses I do wipe the face pad down with alcohol swabs as well as the head straps to try to prevent any oil buildup or smells while waiting for my vr covers to arrive.

Another thing to consider is a small fan to blow air at you, some people use the air flow to help them with disorientation (much like a fresh air vent in a small aircraft can be a life saver). It would also serve the side benefit of blowing the headset's smell away as well as helping dissipate some of the heat it generates.

Hoping it gets better for you, your VR control setups were a big inspiration for me to hack up old joysticks and start building controls for my eventual vr purchase. (my mistake was getting the headset before totally finishing the control stands and extended joystick, now I'm too busy in my free time wanting to fly in vr to get around to actually finishing them up!)

Hey, nice pit, congrats! what's that on the right?

its a button box.

it has some rotary encoders so i can facilitate a gun sight, radio controls pots for various controls, i set the protected switches for jettison tanks & weapons... a multi purpose USB button box.

because in VR i cant see anything, i made this button box to be more flexible with controls.

hopefully eagle dynamics will make some kind of good in cockpit interactive solution. for now, i have my frankenstein button box
